Overview
Infinera has recently moved one of their customer demo / services labs to Richardson, Texas. They need a lab technician who can perform the equipment installation, cable connections, equipment turn-up, and testing. The lab will be used for validating equipment performance and verifying specific customer testing requirements.
- This “Smart Hands Contractor” is expected to assist with equipment installation and fibering in order to have a state-of-the-art Optical Transmission customer demo/services lab. Full lab operation is expected to start at the end of November.
Job Description:
The Test Lab Technician will manage and maintain a working test lab to support product development as well as customer demos & trials driving increased Infinera product sales. The candidate will be the go-to person for local lab needs and driving lab policies and quality control. This individual will be responsible for installing, configuring, and testing a wide array of optical transport equipment. This individual will work closely with internal teams such as engineering and marketing to follow test plans and will sometimes work with customers visiting the lab to confirm equipment performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install all required test equipment in lab to support the test plans.
- Install all Infinera and other associated equipment to be tested, including power and signal cabling.
- Configure Infinera equipment and update software loads using the computer-based GUI/Command Line Interface tools.
- Follow test plans to ensure equipment complies with performance requirements and any specific customer test requirements.
- Ensure test equipment calibration and performance.
- Troubleshoot equipment as required to ensure test compliance.
- Perform any required equipment ordering, logistics, and shipping to support the lab.
- Inventory management.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with telecom equipment, test equipment, fiber optic cables, and lab environments.
- 2+ years of experience implementing test plans using telecom test equipment.
- 2+ years of experience with optical transport or DWDM equipment.
- 2+ years of experience with fiber connections (polishing, scoping, connecting) and testing fiber connections using OTDRs and light meters.
- Demonstrated experience with lab processes and environments, including ESD and safety requirements, test equipment operation and calibration, and AC/DC power.
- Demonstrated experience with equipment turn-up, configuration, troubleshooting, and software updates using GUI/Command Line Interface based tools.
- Basic knowledge of TCP/IP, and routing and switching fundamentals.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and access cables at floor level and above head level via stepping stools and ladders.
- Must be able to carry, lift, and install equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to prepare records and reports in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.
- Good customer facing skills is a nice to have.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and self-transportation to/from site.
