$161,000.00 - $299,000.00At Infinera, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. Your actual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. This role may be eligible for equity grants, discretionary bonuses, or commission payments. The amount of these incentives is based on the terms of the Company’s incentive plans, the Company’s financial performance, and/or individual employee job performance.

Principal Thermal Engineer Location: San Jose CA
Infinera is looking for an experienced thermal engineer to work on delivering complex optical Telcom products.
Projects will include development of production products, research into new technologies, sustaining engineering on existing products, and engineering related to other thermal/mechanical activities within the company
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for thermal analysis, simulation, and DVT of complex optical products.
• Work from product concept to production with minimal supervision.
• Contribute to the definition of product features considering mechanical, electrical, thermal tradeoffs, customer needs and company goals.
• Research, define, design, and test parts to implement these features.
• Create products using sound technical judgment in all areas.
• Good understanding of thermal solutions include complex heatsinks design, 2D/3D Vapor chambers, PCM materials, etc.
• Complete tasks with minimal redesign, paying close attention to detail.
• Conduct analysis of tolerance, stress, and thermal simulations as required.
• Work with Manufacturing, Purchasing and suppliers directly to establish sources for all parts and assemblies.
• Complete mechanical and thermal DVT on new and existing projects as well as help others when needed
• Create high quality documentation for all parts and assemblies.
• Follow through and energetically support introduction of new designs to production.
• Organize the efforts and enlist the support of the other related areas of the company and outside services.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• BSME, MSME preferred
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in thermal design related to telecom products; Line card and Chassis
• Experience in delivering Telcom product; Concept, thermal simulation, and validation phases
• Experience with tolerance analyses, shock and vibration testing, and thermal parameters
• Experience in thermal design of high powered densely packed circuit packs is required.
• Provide cooling solution for high power ASICs
• Experience on providing thermal solutions for 2RU/3RU/5RU telecom chassis
• Strong understanding of heat transfer
• Good experience with system airflow, Fans, and way to minimize system airflow impedance is required
• Proficiency in thermal modeling using FloTherm is required.
• Good Knowledge of CREO tool is a plus
• Expertise in acoustic attenuation is required
• Expertise in thermal materials selection is required
• Experience in the design of telecom networking products required.
• Familiarity with NEBS, ETSI, ANSI requirements required.
• Fluent in written and verbal English.
