We are seeking a Senior Database Engineer to own and modernize the relational database environment behind a large industrial software platform. Your main objective will be leading the migration of two production MariaDB databases to PostgreSQL, while improving performance, concurrency, and reliability along the way.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the performance, reliability, and technical health of two production database environments.
  • Lead the MariaDB-to-PostgreSQL migration end to end: architecture, planning, execution, validation, cutover, and rollback.
  • Analyze and optimize SQL, execution plans, indexes, schemas, and database configuration.
  • Diagnose and resolve locking, blocking, deadlocks, and transaction contention.
  • Tune performance for high-volume application and highly parallel processing workloads.
  • Monitor CPU, memory, storage I/O, connections, and overall resource utilization.
  • Set performance baselines and validate improvements through measurement.
  • Protect data integrity through migration validation and reconciliation processes.
  • Put monitoring, backup, recovery, and capacity planning practices in place.
  • Partner with application engineers on database-facing issues, owning everything from the SQL/query boundary inward.

What You’ll Bring

  • Strong production experience with MariaDB/MySQL and/or PostgreSQL (experience with both is a strong plus).
  • A proven track record migrating production relational databases between platforms.
  • Advanced SQL, query optimization, and execution-plan analysis skills.
  • Deep knowledge of indexing, schema design, transactions, and concurrency.
  • Experience with large datasets, including tables with millions of records.
  • Experience diagnosing performance through system, session, connection, and query metrics.
  • Experience designing cutover, rollback, backup, and recovery strategies.
  • Experience running databases in AWS or a comparable cloud environment.
  • Strong production troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Nice to have: experience migrating large production systems specifically to PostgreSQL, working with highly concurrent processing databases, and database automation and schema versioning.
