AWS Engineer + IoT + MQTT
Posted on Oct 3, 2026
Join a team behind an IoT platform that monitors and manages industrial waste compactors at customer sites. Connected hardware sends operational data to AWS, which powers dashboards, alerts, pickup/haul tracking, automated communications and remote device actions.
What You'll Do
- Rework and configure the existing AWS IoT Core infrastructure for new hardware and firmware
- Configure and manage MQTT communication between devices and AWS
- Build monitoring and dashboards for device connectivity, health and status
- Enable secure remote device actions: OTA firmware updates, restarts and remote commands/configuration
- Review and strengthen device provisioning, authentication, certificates, policies and security
- Migrate end-of-life AWS workloads, including moving services from AWS App Runner to ECS
- Improve AWS infrastructure, deployment pipelines, monitoring, logging and alerting
- Migrate email infrastructure from AWS to Microsoft Azure without disrupting existing applications or automated email workflows
- Partner with the engineering team to understand the current architecture and safely roll out changes
What You'll Bring
- Strong experience with AWS infrastructure and cloud architecture
- Hands-on experience with AWS IoT Core
- Strong understanding of MQTT and IoT communication patterns
- Experience with AWS ECS, containers and Docker
- A track record of migrating workloads between AWS services with minimal downtime on production systems
- Knowledge of AWS networking, IAM, security policies, certificates and service-to-service authentication
- Monitoring and observability experience with tools such as CloudWatch
- Infrastructure troubleshooting and production support experience
- Nice to have: OTA firmware update architectures; managing large fleets of connected/embedded devices; AWS IoT Jobs, Device Shadow, Rules Engine or Fleet Management; Microsoft Azure email/communication services; Terraform, CloudFormation or CDK; CI/CD for AWS workloads; building IoT operational dashboards; working with embedded systems or firmware/hardware teams
