An excellent career opportunity is currently available for a Sr. Cad Designer within the Skills Center of Excellence within the UPT Engineering group located in Calgary, Canada. The role of a Sr. Cad Designer is to work closely with sales and other engineering disciplines, e.g., process, mechanical, instrumentation, and structural engineers, to develop cost-effective plant layouts and designs for process equipment in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and conduct work requiring judgment in independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques and procedures.
  • Apply first principles within the area of specialty to solve problems, make improvements, or new developments.
  • Devise new approaches to problems encountered. Rely on extensive experience to exercise judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Advise on technical problems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve work processes and procedures.
  • May lead revenue-producing projects, including customer interface aspects. Participate in smaller projects or components of larger projects effectively.
  • Provide guidance and information to lower-level engineers and have responsibility for various projects and plans. May assign and outline work. May check the work of others.
  • Independently perform most assignments with instructions as to the general results expected.
  • Be involved in engineering-wide infrastructure issues related to drafting, such as drafting standards for the Department, initiate new drafting policies and direct implementation, provide assistance and detailed instructions to Drafting Network, coordinate cross-Center projects in the drafting field.
  • 3D modeling of piping, equipment, and structural in Cadworx 3D model environment. Other software would be an advantage.
  • Prepare key drawings/documents for General Arrangement (Piping Plan and Elevation) and Isometric Drawings as design deliverables to fabrication.
  • Oversee and coordinate closely with detail designer during all stages of the project to ensure quality design deliverables and adherence to project contract.
  • Work closely with the sales support team to quickly develop Preliminary Plot Plans.
  • Proficient in plant layout aspects and industry practices related but not limited to plot plan arrangement, piping system, instrument design and installation requirements, and understanding of equipment spacing criteria with respect to operational, maintenance/access, and clearances.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge and proficiency in 3D design software, including the ability to navigate software for 3D model reviews during different project stages (30%, 60%, and 90%).

You Must Have:

  • Designer must have 5+ years of experience in the design and layout of piping systems.
  • Familiarity with applicable local and international codes such as ASME, ASTM, as well as other good design and engineering practices.
  • Experience in refinery, oil, gas, and petrochemical industries.
