Position Title: DevOps Engineer II – DRAS SaaS Platform (Azure / OpenADR / Linux)

Location: Hybrid/Remote

As a DevOps Engineer here at Honeywell Smart Energy Solutions, you will play an integral role in supporting and enhancing the DRAS (Demand Response Automation Server) SaaS platform used by utility customers to orchestrate Demand Response (DR) and Distributed Energy Resource Management (DERMS) events. The platform is built around the OpenADR protocol and delivered on Microsoft Azure using an IaaS model. The individual in this position will be responsible for deploying and supporting Azure-hosted environments, managing customer implementations, and ensuring reliability and performance of the overall application stack.

As a DevOps Engineer II here at Honeywell, you will be responsible for deploying and supporting Azure-hosted environments, managing customer implementations, and ensuring reliability and performance of the overall application stack. You will report directly to our Software Engineer Mgr and you’ll work out of our Raleigh, NC location on a Hybrid work schedule.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in infrastructure or DevOps roles supporting enterprise or SaaS applications
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
  • Familiarity with application monitoring and log aggregation tools within Azure (e.g., Azure Monitor, Log Analytics).
  • Solid troubleshooting and performance analysis skills across the full stack (OS, network, web tier, application tier)

WE VALUE / Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience in Microsoft Azure (IaaS model) — provisioning, networking, and resource management.
  • Proficiency with Linux (CentOS, RHEL, Ubuntu) in production environments.
  • Hands-on experience configuring and tuning Apache web servers, specifically mod_jk with WildFly / JBoss.
  • Understanding of JVM configuration, tuning, and debugging.
  • Experience delivering or supporting Java-based SaaS applications.
  • Exposure to OpenADR protocol or utility/DERMS systems.
  • Familiarity with Azure Automation, ARM templates, and Infrastructure-as-Code approaches (Terraform, Bicep, etc.).
  • Background in mobile application delivery or integration (iOS and Android).
  • Knowledge of SSL/TLS certificate management, load balancers, and reverse proxy setups.
  • Understanding of security best practices for multi-tenant applications.

  • Manage and support Azure IaaS environments hosting the DRAS SaaS application, including provisioning and configuration of new customer instances.
  • Configure and administer Apache web servers on Linux, including complex mod_jk setups for load-balanced connections to WildFly / JBoss application servers.
  • Administer and tune Linux operating systems for performance, reliability, and security in a multi-tenant SaaS environment.
  • Optimize and troubleshoot WildFly / JBoss application servers and associated JVM (JDK) configurations
  • Deploy application updates, patches, and configuration changes to ensure high availability and fault tolerance.
  • Collaborate with developers and QA teams to ensure continuous integration and smooth delivery pipelines across environments.
  • Implement and maintain monitoring, alerting, and performance-tuning strategies within Azure.
  • Provide guidance and automation improvements using Azure tools and scripting (PowerShell, Bash, or ARM templates).
  • Support mobile application integration workflows (iOS and Android) including backend configuration and environment ties.
