We are seeking a Senior Project Development Engineer with a strong engineering background and customer-facing experience to support the development of distributed energy resources (DER) and energy efficiency, and demand management projects. This role focuses on identifying, assessing, and developing energy projects—including battery energy storage systems (BESS) and other energy efficiency and resiliency measures—for Commercial, Utility and Industrial (C&I) customers.
The ideal candidate combines technical depth with strong communication skills, enabling them to work directly with customers, internal engineering teams, and external stakeholders throughout the project development lifecycle.

As a Sr Program Specialist here at Honeywell, you will drive FAR15 proposals and subcontracts, perform price analyses, execute subcontracts, and collaborate across functions. Ensure compliant FAR15 packages, strategic agreements, and cost savings. You will report directly to our Director Program Management, and you’ll work out of our Hamilton, NJ location on a hybrid work schedule.
YOU MUST HAVE
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Energy, or related discipline).
- Experience in distributed energy resources project development, including energy storage and energy efficiency measures.
- Hands-on experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS) projects, including early-stage development and technical evaluation.
- 5 plus years of experience in Commercial & Industrial (C&I) customers and performing energy assessments or audits and developing strong value propositions
- Maximizing and Evaluation of Custom Incentive, Grants and Tax Credits to improve ROI on energy and infrastructure upgrade projects
- Strong understanding of DER technologies, system sizing, and performance metrics.
- Ability to engage directly with customers and communicate technical concepts clearly and confidently.
- Experience supporting multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
WE VALUE
- Experience with utility interconnection processes and incentive programs.
- Familiarity with DER financial models, pro formas, PPA, EPC, and EAAS.
- Knowledge of relevant codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE, UL) related to DER, energy storage and energy infrastructure upgrades
- Experience working in customer-facing engineering or solutions development roles.

The annual base salary range for this position is $130,000-$162,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of DER projects from early-stage concepts through pre-construction, with a focus on battery energy storage systems (BESS) and integrated energy solutions.
- Conduct technical and economic feasibility assessments for distributed energy resources, including energy storage, load management, and other energy measures.
- Perform energy assessments and site evaluations for C&I customers to identify optimization, resilience, and decarbonization opportunities.
- Act as a customer-facing technical lead, translating complex engineering concepts into clear, actionable recommendations for non-technical stakeholders.
- Develop project scopes, conceptual designs, and high-level system configurations for DER solutions.
- Support financial modeling inputs by providing accurate technical assumptions, system sizing, and performance estimates.
- Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, sales, finance, legal, offering, sourcing and construction) to advance projects through development milestones.
- Coordinate with utilities, vendors, and technology providers on interconnection requirements, equipment selection, and system capabilities.
- Support permitting, interconnection applications, and incentive program participation as needed.
- Stay current on DER technologies, market trends, regulatory changes, and utility programs impacting project development.
