As a Firmware & Hardware Engineer Intern, you’ll be part of the global product development team, that performs Firmware Verification and on Fire Alarm control panels and devices. In this position, you will be responsible for supporting the Validation activities to release end-user solutions to the customer. There will be opportunities to learn new technologies, which is encouraged.
The FW/HW Intern will play a vital role in assisting our engineering team with the integration of firmware and hardware components. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work on innovative projects that require a blend of skills in electrical engineering and computer science. The intern will contribute to the development, testing, and optimization of embedded systems, gaining practical experience in both hardware design and software development. This role aims to provide the intern with insight into the complexities of hardware-software interactions and the collaborative process of creating functional, reliable systems.

As an Cybersecurity Engineer Intern here at Honeywell, you will gain hands-on experience in engineering support, assist in technical guidance, and contribute to successful project completion.You will report directly to our Engineering Manager and you’ll work out of our Mexico City location on a Hybrid work schedule.

You must have

  • Education: Currently pursuing a bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science or Mechatronic.
  • Relevant Coursework: Studies in embedded systems, computer architecture, digital and analog electronics, signal processing, and real-time operating systems (RTOS) are highly relevant.

We value knowledge in

Firmware (FW) Skills:

  • Embedded Programming: Proficiency in C and C++ for developing low-level code that interacts directly with hardware. Knowledge of assembly language is a plus.
  • Microcontrollers and Processors: Familiarity with programming various microcontrollers (e.g., ARM, PIC, AVR) and understanding their architectures.
  • RTOS:Basic understanding of real-time operating systems, essential for managing tasks in resource-constrained embedded systems.
  • Communication Protocols: Working knowledge of common embedded communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, and UART, and potentially higher-speed interfaces like PCIe or USB.
  • Debugging: Experience with debugging tools (e.g., JTAG, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes) to troubleshoot firmware issues.
  • Version Control: Proficiency with version control systems like Git for collaborative development.

Hardware (HW) Skills:

  • Circuit Design: Basic knowledge of analog and digital circuit design principles to understand and contribute to schematics.
  • PCB Design: Familiarity with PCB design software (e.g., Altium, Eagle) along with an understanding of component placement and manufacturability.
  • Hardware Description Languages (HDLs): Exposure to VHDL or Verilog for projects involving FPGAs
  • Testing and Validation: Experience with hardware testing, including building prototypes, measuring and analyzing test data, and debugging hardware-related issues in a lab environment.
  • Component Selection: Knowledge of electronic components and the ability to read and interpret datasheets effectively.

  • Responsible for managing all security-related deliverables for the developed firmware.
  • Works closely with Cybersecurity Architects to track and ensure completion of security deliverables.
  • Utilizes programming knowledge to identify vulnerabilities within the code.
  • Ensures compliance with security requirements to obtain approval for product launch.
