As a Lead Research and Development (R&D) Engineer/Scientist here at Honeywell, you will be responsible for developing the next generation of turbine engine-based propulsion and power systems for the aerospace industry. By collaborating with customers and Honeywell engineering teams, you will define products and support technology development roadmaps to meet customer requirements. You will be a technical focal point across Honeywell Aerospace Technologies engineering teams creating solutions and systems that meet the evolving needs of our customers. You will provide Program Management and Project Engineering leadership to execute internal and external programs that define the propulsion and power systems needed by our customers. You will utilize your engineering background and systems engineering fundamentals to manage integrated product teams. You will leverage advanced tools and techniques to deliver high-impact business results while serving as a technical leader and coach to other engineers and technology stakeholders.

You will report directly to our Sr. Engineering Manager for Advanced Propulsion and Power Systems and you’ll work out of our Phoenix, Arizona location on a Hybrid work schedule.

In this role, you will impact the development of cutting-edge technologies and contribute to Honeywell's commitment to addressing global challenges through innovative solutions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage 1-3 programs simultaneously with >$2M total annual expenditures
    • Execute advanced engine conceptual design collaborative work preceding and/or resulting from customer pursuits.
    • Establish program technical requirements, statement of work, sales contracts, program charter, and work breakdown structure
    • Setup and initiate programs and institute Program Management Operating Systems to ensure contract execution within cost and schedule constraints while achieving technical objectives
    • Lead supporting project engineering and functional design teams
    • Utilize the Honeywell Earned Value Management System (EVMS) and subject matter expertise to assess project performance, identify risks early, and implement effective corrective actions
  • Lead government and airframer customer pursuits for advanced turbine engine based propulsion and power systems including hybrid electric systems
    • Align technologies to business product development roadmaps and assess readiness using TRA methodology
    • Lead program planning supporting internal and external customers including development of SOW, schedule, resource plans, cost estimates, and risk assessments
  • Effectively manage intellectual property through the timely submittal of patent disclosures

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics
  • 6+ years of experience in gas turbine engine or air-breathing propulsion development, production, or field sustainment
  • Proven track record of technical leadership in cross-functional teams of engineers, scientists, or technicians
  • Strong communication and presentation skills

WE VALUE

  • Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a similar Engineering field
  • Gas turbine engine or air breathing propulsion thermodynamic analysis experience
  • Airframe propulsion, power, and thermal management systems engineering experience
  • Experience in turbine engine manufacturing and functional design areas ranging from aerodynamics, thermal/mechanical, materials and processes, thermodynamics, controls, test, and systems engineering
  • Program Management or Project Engineering experience with external customers
  • Experience with government agencies in the pursuit of externally funded Science & Technology programs
  • Program Management (PM) or Project Engineering (PE) or functional support experience in product or technology development
  • Strong demonstrated performance in executing multiple programs in a team environment to meet program cost, schedule, and technical targets.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with strong teaming, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to work across organizational boundaries, build relationships quickly, and deal with ambiguity
  • Experience with SAP, Teamcenter, Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Program management experience using earned value management (EVM)
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification
  • Self-motivation and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • DoD Secret Clearance
