Senior Aquatic Biologist
Are you an experienced Aquatic Biologist looking to progress your career? We're looking for Senior Aquatic Biologist to join our growing team. We are open to filling this position in our Mount Pearl NL, Halifax NS, Fredericton NB, Moncton NB, or Ottawa, ON office. The role will require travel to the Happy Valley Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador area.

A typical day on the job might look like:
- Developing and overseeing comprehensive aquatic surveys designed to meet provincial and federal requirements.
- Leading and coordinating aquatic field surveys including fish and mussel species and population level inventories, benthic invertebrates, water and sediment sampling, and habitat mapping.
- Overseeing site characterization from an aquatic biology perspective and contributing to multidisciplinary discussions.
- Undertaking necessary consultation / engagement with clients, regulators, sub-contractors, etc.
- Contributing to project planning efforts in regard to bathymetry, substrate profiling, and aquatic-terrestrial impact assessments.
- Guiding development of aquatic compensation strategies and site-level ecological enhancements.
- Supervising and mentoring junior biologists in field techniques, data collection, and QA/QC procedures.
- Preparing and reviewing aquatic baseline investigations, aquatic impact assessments, contribute to larger environmental assessments and other required regulatory submissions.
- Maintaining a high standard of health, safety, and environmental compliance in all project activities.
- Consulting and incorporating indigenous community stakeholders in program development, fieldwork, data analysis, logistics, etc.
- Other duties as required, depending on project needs
Educational & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in aquatic biology, with a strong focus on program development, fieldwork, technical reporting and permitting.
- Demonstrated experience leading aquatic assessments involving fish (freshwater), mussels, water quality, and habitat evaluations.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and permitting processes (e.g., federal/provincial EA requirements, DFO, SAR, etc.).
- Experience in compensation planning considered an asset.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; capable of preparing technical reports and engaging with stakeholders.
- Experience leading and coordinating a team of biologists to undertake field surveys, data management and technical writing.
- Experience with community statistical software is considered an asset.
