About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated SEC Reporting Manager to play a key role in our Controllership organization, ensuring the integrity, accuracy and compliance of our external financial reporting. This role owns the preparation and review of our periodic SEC reports and provides technical accounting expertise as needed. You will partner closely with external auditors, legal counsel, Investor Relations, FP&A, and executive management, and help drive process improvement and automation across the reporting function.
Responsibilities:
Own the preparation, review, and timely filing of Forms 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K, proxy statements, and other SEC filings, including all financial statements, footnote disclosures, and MD&A.
Coordinate the report review cycle — collecting and resolving comments from external auditors, legal counsel, internal reviewers, and executive management.
Completing various aspects of the month-end close and financial reporting process
Ad-hoc project-based work including but not limited to, process improvements, accounting guidance implementation and using AI tools to increase the efficiency and quality of the close and reporting cycles.
Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Accounting. Finance or a related discipline and CPA or enrolled in the CPA program.
6–8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting (Big 4 or large regional preferred).
Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements at a publicly traded company.
A proven attention to detail and an ability to work independently and hands-on experience preparing or reviewing Forms 10-K and 10-Q.
An ability to prioritize your workload and a flexible/adaptable nature that will thrive in Shopify's fast paced environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Advanced skills and experience with Excel, Google Sheets and SEC reporting software (Workiva).
Netsuite or other ERP experience.
