What role you will play in our team
The Environmental Advisor will support the Kearl operation by completing regulatory analyses, maintaining existing regulatory compliance systems and relationships, and ensuring compliance with internal and external reporting requirements. The position will keep up-to-date with assigned regulations and support Operations staff in the field to drive reasonable rulemaking and interpretations. Actual job role could vary based on experience and knowledge of candidate(s).
The work schedule is a 14/14 dayshift rotation to our Kearl facility in Northern Alberta, north of Fort McMurray. Charter flights are provided out of Calgary, Alberta and Edmonton, Alberta to the Kearl site.
What you will do
- Perform routine environmental and regulatory compliance activities including managing data associated with environmental and regulatory permitting, compliance, processes and programs
- Coordinate information gathering, respond to internal and regulatory agency information requests, and support permit applications
- Assist in developing and implementing consistent and efficient compliance programs (e.g. environmental aspect / impact assessments, environmental business planning)
- Execute day-to-day Environment, Climate and Regulatory practices, programs, data management and reporting including OIMS; provide training and support to operations, including learnings from incidents
- Support environmental business planning, permitting, and environmental impact assessment processes
- Build and engage the network to effectively support compliance assurance systems
- Identify non-conformances with key Environment, Climate and Regulatory practices and systems, and support implementation of corrective actions
- Monitor compliance with Environment, Climate and Regulatory standards
About you
- Minimum 5 years of relevant environmental experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of Federal & Provincial environmental regulations
- Demonstrated knowledge of Alberta Regulatory Framework including the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act
- A valid driver's license and a safe driving record are required for this site-based position
- Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Engineering with an Environmental / Civil major or concentration, Environmental Sciences or Environmental Management degree
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Effective communication skills
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Work, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong detail orientation
- Strong business ethics
