Job Role Description

The associate chemical composition technician is responsible for operating and interpreting results from one or more advanced analytical methods under supervision. This includes techniques such as microscopy, spectroscopy, chromatography, and mass spectrometry. The technician ensures timely and high-quality data generation and documentation to support research and development activities and ensures safe, compliant, and high-quality operations in line with operational integrity standards

Job Role Responsibilities

- Demonstrates foundational knowledge of at least one analytical technique, such as Microscopy, Atomic Spectroscopy, Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry, Molecular Spectroscopy, NMR, Scattering, or X-Ray Spectroscopy, including core principles like imaging, optics, plasma behavior, or chromatographic separation
- Analyzes and interprets analytical data to identify and characterize chemical compounds, from at least one analytical technique, e.g. interpret mass spectrometry data to identify compounds based on molecular weights and fragmentation patterns, apply basic understanding of molecular vibrations, Fourier Transform, Beer’s Law, and NMR principles like chemical shift, relaxation, 2D-NMR, etc.
- Operates analytical instruments safely and effectively at least for one specialized technique area, e.g. Microscopy, Atomic Spectroscopy, Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry, Molecular Spectroscopy, NMR, Scattering or X-Ray Spectroscopy, ensuring proper setup, calibration, and execution of tests
- Maintains clear and consistent communication with scientists and team members to ensure effective collaboration, timely updates on research progress, and alignment of project goals
- Analyzes results using standard references and established interpretation methods to ensure accuracy and consistency in data evaluation
- Knows and adheres to operational integrity by consistently following safety protocols, quality standards, and compliance requirements
- Reports data / findings clearly and promptly, documenting all relevant data for effective use across ExxonMobil
