Job Role Description

The Advanced Offsites and Utilities Engineer is expected to apply engineering skills, knowledge of offsites and utilities systems, and leadership skills to:
- Work in a project or operations role where the majority of the facilities / scope is focused on Offsites or Utilities Systems (i.e. roughly OSBL)
- Be deployed to projects, embedded within an operating site, or provide project and / or operations support from a central organization
- Acquire a strong working knowledge of technology fundamentals for their assigned areas
This role is expected to effectively collaborate, interact, and communicate with both internal and external partners. The Advanced Offsites and Utilities Engineer will start developing key leadership skills to facilitate the transition from an individual contributor to a technical leader

Job Role Responsibilities

Project Support
- Responsible for development of the Project O&U basis and the integration of the O&U facilities within the existing plant or the new plant design
- Support design deliverables for the O&U scope anywhere from Stage 1 through Startup depending on the position while integrating other disciplines to ensure technical quality and completeness of facilities definition
- Lead and / or perform studies to identify or evaluate capital or operating cost savings, reliability optimizations, configuration alternatives, safety facilities requirements, GHG / water reduction opportunities, etc. such that the project meets its stated objectives in the POS
- Develop Utilities basis including steam generation / distribution systems, water supply / treating, fuel systems, compressed air / nitrogen systems, cooling water system, safety systems and power generation
- Develop Offsites basis for logistics / storage / shipping facilities for various overlapping supply chains. Offsites can also include stormwater drainage, sewers, wastewater treatment, and flare / relief systems
- Provide oversight and quality control on contractor deliverables during FEED and / or Detailed Engineering
- Participate in field-based activities to support construction, systems completion, turnover, commissioning and / or start-up
Operations Support and Surveillance
- Provide ongoing technical surveillance, troubleshooting and support for site Offsites and / or Utilities Systems
- Identify Offsites or Utilities System constraints and recommend facility modifications for long term improvement of safety, reliability, GHG emissions, water conservation, OPEX and / or profitability
- Understand root cause of upset events and contribute to troubleshooting and / or recovery efforts
- Participate in energy efficiency and / or GHG-reduction efforts for Offsites or Utilities Systems
- Coordinate with operations staff (engineering, operations, maintenance) inclusive of participation in meetings, planning initiatives, and following progress
- Participate in plant turnaround / startup activities for Offsites or Utilities equipment
Mentorship: Mentor junior engineering staff; interest in growing toward Offsites and Utilities technical depth
