What you will do
ExxonMobil’s UK Industrial Placement Scheme is designed to give university students the opportunity to apply their degree knowledge and fulfil their potential, gaining confidence and experience as an individual, and learning new skills in a real operational environment.
Our Industrial Placement job roles cover many exciting work areas – we’ll give you the opportunity to experience a variety of work projects and contribute to the success of your team. You could find yourself completing onsite inspections and developing repair plans for critical equipment, troubleshooting plant issues and providing technical support for daily operations, or designing new equipment that will make our plants safer, more efficient and more reliable.
Whichever team you start in, you’ll have real responsibility from day one and we’ll provide a supportive learning environment, where you can develop both technically and professionally.
Where you will work
You will either be located at the Fawley Petrochemical Complex, or at the neighbouring Hythe Fuel Terminal.
Fawley is the UK’s largest integrated petrochemical complex, producing a range of energy products, lubricants and chemicals that are vital to our everyday lives. Opened by Prime Minister Clement Atlee in September 1951, the complex covers 3,250 acres and provides employment for 2,500 valued staff and contractors. In addition to being a manufacturing hub, Fawley is also home to ExxonMobil UK’s commercial headquarters with product sales, marketing and business development teams based on site.
What we’re looking for
We're looking for engineers who combine strong technical fundamentals with a practical, delivery-focused mindset. Successful candidates will be curious, resilient and action-oriented problem solvers who enjoy working in a manufacturing environment and taking ownership of real-world challenges. We value individuals who can adapt quickly, challenge constructively, simplify complex problems and drive outcomes through collaboration with operations and engineering teams.
Academic ability is important, but it is not the sole differentiator for success. We are looking for engineers who are motivated to take ownership, continuously improve the way work is done and deliver measurable results through others as well as through their own technical capability.
