ExxonMobil in Malaysia

In Malaysia, we host a global business and technology center in Kuala Lumpur that provides high-level information technology and engineering expertise to ExxonMobil’s Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions businesses worldwide. In the upstream, we have interests in two Production Sharing Contracts with PETRONAS, while in the Product Solutions business, we supply a portfolio of specialty chemical products to the marketplace.

What role you will play in the team

The Associate Production Engineer is responsible for maximizing asset value through optimization of production and injection systems from reservoir to sales point. Working closely with operations and across functional boundaries, they utilize data, tools and work processes to optimize to constraints and to identify, evaluate and prioritize opportunities to remove constraints. This role may support asset operations (locally or remotely) or be part of a technology development team.

What you will do

  • Conduct surveillance of production and injection systems, including measured & allocated phase rates, pressures, temperatures, and volume loss, then collaborate with the cross-functional team to develop optimized production / injection plans; ensure data is validated and adheres to applicable standards
  • Support operations in troubleshooting performance deficiencies, managing non-routine operations (e.g. start-up, process upsets), implementing optimization opportunities, and planning / prioritization of data collection (e.g. well tests, sampling, field trials)
  • Create, sustain and / or utilize models of typical production and injection systems or system components to help quantify system potential and identify optimization opportunities (models may be physics based or data driven)
  • Apply fit for purpose economic analysis to evaluate routine optimization opportunities identified through surveillance and / or modeling and prioritize based on common value metrics
  • Apply a continuouse improvement / LEAN mindset to proactively identify and support implementation of efficiency opportunities, including including but not limited to costs, operational practices and business processes
    Identify, select, develop and / or deliver technology solutions to meet business needs, leveraging industry practices and benchmarking to help prioritize solutions
  • Build relationships externally with business & technology partners, COVs, vendors, and other third parties, as required by the position
  • Participate in key cross-functional reviews of production & injection performance and network meetings

About you

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's engineering degree from a recognized university in petroleum /chemical/ mechanical/other relevant engineering disciplines.
  • Experience in Production Surveillance as a Production Technologist or Reservoir Engineer

Possess operational experiences, particularly in:

  • Inflow/outflow/flowline modeling
  • Production well testing and allocation principles
  • Network modeling and facilities operations
  • Well design, completion, intervention, and stimulation technologies
  • Artificial lift methods and systems
  • Reservoir and Facilities surveillance
  • Production surveillance, troubleshooting, and optimization of well and field performance
  • Hands on experience with proprietary or vendor engineering analysis tools within the experience domain.

  • Be able to demonstrate the following:
    • Strong analytical skills, communication, and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to manage workload under time pressure and changing priorities
    • Ability to work in a multi-cultural global team and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
    • Intellectual rigor, strong drive, and desire to lead change
  • Knowledge in the following tools / software
    • Experience with engineering applications such as IPM (MBAL, GAP, PROSPER, Resolve), OFM, OLGA and Hysys.
    • Experience with data visualization software (e.g. Power BI, SeeQ, XHQ) and scripting skills (e.g. Python).
    • Experience in Production Database Management (e.g. Energy Components, PL/SQL).
