About this opportunity:
Are you interested in modern radio technology and data-driven innovation?
This master thesis project offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of network intelligence by classifying residential areas based on radio performance data. You will be part of a team that explores innovative machine learning techniques to understand operators’ behavior through radio KPIs, with the goal of planning for next-generation radio technologies and enabling data-driven business decisions.
As urban areas rapidly expand, the demand for robust communication infrastructure grows. Different residential zones—dense urban, urban, suburban, and rural—have varying network requirements. However, a major challenge is the frequent lack of geolocation data for many radios, which complicates understanding and forecasting operator needs.
By leveraging clustering techniques on radio KPIs, this thesis aims to overcome that challenge. The goal is to develop a model that groups residential areas based on performance indicators such as population density, land use, transport accessibility, energy consumption, and socio-economic conditions. This classification will support strategic decisions in radio development and future network evolution.
What you will do:
- Conduct a literature review on Radio Access Networks and clustering techniques.
- Analyze and characterize radio KPIs.
- Develop models to classify residential areas.
- Validate models across different regions.
- Document findings and present recommendations.
The skills you bring:
- Background in AI/ML or statistics, preferably with the understandings of physics, electronic engineering, applied mathematics, computer science.
- Familiarity with radio technology and electrical engineering is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
