Description
As a member of a dynamic development team, the Mechanical Designer will be responsible for the design of all sheet metal enclosures, faceplates, and mechanical aspects of printed circuit boards (PCBs) for carrier-grade Optical Transport, Optical Line Terminals (OLTs), and Customer Premise Equipment (CPE)
What You’ll Do
- Work under the supervision of a senior mechanical designer, hardware engineers and manufacturing to ensure each circuit pack is designed for testability and manufacturability and that it meets cost targets
- Create part and product 3D models (Solidworks)
- Develop and maintain part standards in terms of tolerances, finish and materials
- Support layout designers with common feature drawings and review for interference within the mechanical envelope defined for each product
- Conduct simulations and analysis to validate design performance, including thermal, stress and vibration analysis
- Work with metal shops and machine shops for prototyping parts
- Strive for continuous improvement in our processes and innovation in the designs while always looking to minimize cost
- Developing and executing test plans to verify the functionality and reliability of the mechanical design
- Support the transfer to manufacturing/production and seek improvements in design that lead to higher first pass yields and lower field returns.
- Conduct first article inspections on your design builds and help assemble prototypes
Requirements
- Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent coupled with 4+ years’ experience in product mechanical design.
- Experience with 1RU-14RU carrier-grade system requirements
- Experience with CAD design tools (Solidworks preferred)
- Experience developing Assembly Drawings for high-volume manufacturing
- Excellent communication skills
- Foster Collaboration with the design team
- Ability to identify and resolve design issues to optimize design function and manufacturability
- Understanding of DFM to ensure products can achieve high factory yield.
Assets You May Possess
- Experience with hardware design of telecom circuit packs
- Knowledge of Telecom standards for deploying products in harsh environments
- Experience with molding plastics
- Experience with library management
- Design reuse principles to speed up design cycles
