Job Summary

Reporting directly to the Director Operations, the Industrial Engineer will be responsible to study, design, and implement methods and process improvements for both manufacturing and administrative departments. They will apply basic engineering principles to perform routine design, fabrication, modification and evaluation in support of manufacturing operations. Preparing plans, conducting support studies, and providing analysis or tests in the development of manufacturing operations will be part of this role. They will be a key contributor to the APEX program and provide leadership and guidance to Continuous Improvement Initiatives throughout the business.

As an Industrial Engineer, your main responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Conduct studies and provide recommendations for improving efficiency and/or utilization of personnel, equipment, materials and utilities.
  • Initiates cost reduction projects and assists with implementation, which may include capital equipment justification by determining cost vs. benefit and return on investment.
  • Leads continuous improvement initiatives applying Lean Six Sigma concepts.
  • Works closely with Manufacturing Operations, Engineering, Quality Assurance (QA) and/or Information Technology (IT) to rollout and sustain process improvement changes.
  • Works with Production Management and IT personnel to develop and/or modify reporting systems to aid in financial planning and cost analysis with the objective of supporting productivity improvement.
  • Develops and maintains a direct labour standards database for production cost estimating, through time study and/or work sampling
  • Develop and perform analytics related to supply chain and production planning.
  • Evaluate business forecasts and pinpoint any areas of vulnerability of company requirements
  • Able to build and run queries from databases in order to develop and maintain regular weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting including building/maintenance of Business Intelligence dashboards and tools
  • Monitor Target Costs against Proposal Costs
  • Ability to manage, sort and provide insight from large data sets.
  • Ability to seek opportunities for cost savings and processes improvements through data analytics
  • Maintain data integrity of ERP system and fix errors or omissions where required
  • Support, communicate and defend the mission, values and culture of the company

What you require to be successful in the role:

  • 3 yr University/College diploma in Industrial Engineering Technology (University degree in Industrial Engineering preferred).
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar role within the manufacturing industry is required;
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft BI and ERP systems;
  • Effective computer skills including, excel spreadsheets and database creation, maintenance and update;
  • Knowledge of Work measurement using Pre-Determined Time Standards, Time Study, Work Sampling.
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma and SPC
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal);
  • Ability to display data effectively;
  • Good organization skills;
  • Effective customer service skills;
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills;
  • Works well within a team.
