About the Role

Reporting directly to the Vice President, Human Resources, the Senior HR Specialist plays an essential role supporting every stage of the employee life cycle. Duties & Responsibilities

Recruitment

  • Coordinate end-to-end recruitment process, including confirming key posting details with hiring leaders, sourcing, attracting, screening and onboarding top talent
  • Ongoing build of talent pipeline
  • Act as key contact for campus/post-secondary school liaison for co-op programs
  • Owning the talent portion of employee onboarding

People & Culture

  • Lead Social Committee and manage event execution. Organize staff and community events, celebrations and recognition gatherings to maintain high employee engagement and motivation
  • Handling employee questions, feedback and concerns with empathy, recognizing situations to be escalated or where further investigation is required
  • Key supporter and enabler of the strategic Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging plan
  • Member of the Joint Health & Safety Committee

HR Operations & Compliance

  • Serve as a trusted BambooHR administrator for all key updates to employee records.
  • Lead all onboarding and offboarding processes for all employees. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement – coordinating with internal stakeholder groups to ensure seamless transitions
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee benefits inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate communication. Coordinate enrolment, changes, and terminations in group benefits plans.
  • Maintain HR policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with Compliance and Finance/Payroll team to ensure audit and operational requirements are met
  • Stay current on evolving employment legislation, talent best practices and industry trends to help keep function progressive and successful

Trusted Advisor

  • Build the talent brand as a trusted business partner, providing employees and frontline people managers with guidance on talent matters
  • Support performance management processes, training initiatives, and facilitate career development programs
  • Analyze HR data to support decision-making and continuous improvement in HR programs
  • Support preparation of internal HR communications for All Hands, board meetings and other events are required.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • College or University degree, preferably in Human Resources, Social Sciences or Business
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in an HR role, preferably in a start-up/scale-up or fast-moving environment
  • Must be tech savvy, quick to learn new software
  • Exceptional communication skills – written, oral, presentation
  • Demonstrated success in building strong working relationships with diverse teams
  • Highly proficient in Google Suite and MS Office
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills, able to prioritize and multi-task
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of Employment Standards Act, 2000 (ESA) as well as other applicable legislation such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Human Rights Code
