Summary

Deloitte is seeking a knowledgeable and client-focused Workday HCM Functional Consultant to join the Human Capital Operate team. The successful candidate will support the ongoing operation, maintenance, enhancement, and optimization of clients’ Workday environments.

This role combines hands-on Workday functional configuration, structured problem solving, and direct client engagement. The consultant will manage production support requests, investigate functional issues, gather requirements, configure and test solutions, prepare documentation, and recommend improvements that strengthen platform effectiveness and user experience.

What will your typical day look like?

In this role, you will provide functional support for Workday HCM within Application Managed Services and post-production environments. You will work closely with client stakeholders to understand incidents, service requests, enhancements, and business requirements, translating those needs into practical, sustainable Workday functional solutions. Responsibilities include configuring approved Workday functionality in accordance with established design, testing, and change management standards; investigating functional issues, performing root-cause analysis, and recommending appropriate resolutions; and assessing the impact of proposed changes across business processes, security, reporting, integrations, and downstream activities. You will also develop functional design documents, configuration workbooks, test scenarios, deployment evidence, and knowledge materials, while supporting unit, integration, regression, and user acceptance testing, including defect triage and resolution. Success in this role requires effectively communicating progress, risks, dependencies, required decisions, and next steps to both client and delivery stakeholders, as well as collaborating with Workday integration, reporting, security, payroll, and technical resources to address cross-functional issues. In addition, you will participate in client meetings, working sessions, solution walkthroughs, and knowledge transfer activities, while continuously identifying opportunities to improve processes, configuration, controls, data quality, and the overall user experience.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Manage incidents, service requests, defects, and enhancement requests within Workday managed services engagements.
  • Investigate issues, assess business impact, maintain ticket updates, and ensure work is completed within agreed service levels.
  • Gather and analyze business requirements, translating them into functional specifications, configuration requirements, and test scenarios.
  • Recommend sustainable Workday solutions aligned with business objectives and established standards.
  • Perform approved Workday configuration changes and coordinate cross-functional support involving integrations, reporting, security, and data.
  • Develop and maintain configuration documentation, design artifacts, and deployment evidence.
  • Execute unit testing and support integration, regression, user acceptance testing, and production deployments.
  • Communicate status, risks, dependencies, and recommendations to client stakeholders and delivery teams.
  • Build strong client relationships, escalate delivery risks as needed, and support knowledge transfer activities.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize processes, improve data quality and user experience, and support Workday release adoption.
  • Contribute to reusable documentation, knowledge assets, templates, and best practices.
