Job Description:

The Data Governance Leader establishes, owns and drives Crowe’s Data Governance Program and all initiatives under its umbrella. Currently Crowe’s Data Governance Program has the following components: Data Governance Operating Model, Master Data Management (MDM), Data Governance Policies, Procedures and Workflows, Data Quality Management, Metadata Management, and Data Compliance Oversight. This position reports to the Head of Data, who reports to the Chief Technology Officer.

Responsibilities:

  • Ownership of and accountability for the successful results of the Data Governance Program including strategy, roadmaps, timelines, and resource assignment from the Data Governance team
  • Consultation and alignment to bring a diverse and fragmented business together around a solid set of data management best practices, principles, metrics, and automation
  • Communication and engagement to ensure the business sees the value of good data governance & data management
  • Collaborate with team to plan capacity to accommodate program goals, support other Data Transformation initiatives, and leave margin for learning and unexpected shifts
  • Collaborate with our Firmwide Risk Management, Information Security and Privacy functions to operate seamless data protections across the firm, complying with existing and emerging data related regulation
  • Create a globally scalable data governance and data management strategy that spans enterprise data as well as any products or service enablers developed by Crowe
  • Work closely with data team personnel, business data owners & stewards, and related business personnel to deliver value in a timely manner
  • Build and operate a recurring function to report on data quality and ensure remediation of data quality issues is occurring with data owners per our standards
  • Establish and report on metrics to monitor & tangibly demonstrate the value provided to the business via data quality metrics, sensitive data monitoring as well as alert to any negative trends in these areas
  • Work with team and business users to ensure successful adoption, usage and benefit realization from data governance, master data, and related programs
  • Lead and develop staff of integrated cross-functional data competencies
  • Mentor and coach Data Engineers, Data Governance Experts, and other roles within team, managing career growth via mentorship and proactive planning

Qualifications:

  • Good standard of education or equivalent experience in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience in establishing, leading, and owning data governance programs and initiatives
  • A wide variety of degrees will be considered but a typical candidate may have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant domain such as Management Information Systems, Information Technology, Informatics or related technical field. However, work experience will be of equal, if not greater, importance
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and operationalizing data related guidelines, policies, procedures, and standards that promote ease of use, transparency, and compliance
  • Demonstrated ability to build cross-functional relationships that result in adoption of organizational change
  • Strong understanding of Data Governance, Data Quality, Master Data Management technology landscape, processes, and design principles
  • Strong understanding of privacy laws and regulations
  • Familiarity in the use of meta-data management, data catalogs, and data stewardship tools
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • Strong facilitation skills with the ability to drive issues to closure
  • Self-motivated and able to handle tasks with minimal supervision or questions
  • Ability to compare technologies and make recommendations to senior members of the team
