Cisco Wireless Software Engineers breathe life into our on-prem, cloud-managed network-attached devices, which include wireless controllers, access points, SDA Wireless. We use real-time telemetry from thousands of deployed networks spanning the globe to continuously improve the performance and stability of our products. We are looking for a passionate and experienced System Test Development Engineer to join our Cisco Wireless team, passionate about testing our enterprise wireless products. In this role, you will be responsible for validating the quality and adaptability of our wireless platforms and solutions through comprehensive system-level testing. Your work will directly impact the stability, scalability, and performance of our networking solutions deployed in real-world customer environments.
What you will work on:
- Solve challenging architecture problems to build scalable and extendable systems.
- Work with firmware engineers and PM to build intuitive and powerful workflows to handle containers.
- Coordinate and align knowledge and opinions between firmware, SRE and other developers.
- With the help of other engineers, implement sophisticated system to manage the Wireless network.
- Identify and solve performance bottlenecks in our Backend architecture.
- Take complete ownership from conception to production release by leveraging your ability to influence, facilitate, and work collaboratively across teams.
- Lead, mentor, and spread best practices to other specialists on the team.
You are an ideal fit if you have:
- 5+ years of experience in software or system quality assurance, with a strong focus on system-level and / or functional testing of enterprise wireless.
- Scripting or automation experience using Python for test setup, Orchestration, or data analysis.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines or automated test frameworks.
- Hands-on experience crafting and driving solution tests, scale/stress tests, and performance tests that simulate realistic deployment and traffic conditions.
- Deep understanding and strong knowledge of standard Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking protocols, including but not limited to Wireless LAN Controllers, Access Points, 802.11x, Wi-Fi 6E / 7, VLAN, DHCP, switching, and multicast, ipv4, ipv6, security features and other related technologies..
- Attention to detail, proven ability to build and maintain high-quality test plans that ensure end-to-end system validation and uncover edge cases early.
- Strong experience in debugging sophisticated system-level issues, analyzing test results, and collaborating closely with development and product teams.
- Familiarity with Cisco Wireless or other enterprise-class switches, and confidence working in Cloud-based and On-Prem configuration environments.
- Proficiency in working with Linux systems and using command-line tools for test execution and log analysis.
- Strong proficiency in configuring and using traffic generators such as IXIA for performance, scale, RFC testing is required.
- A strong team player mentality, with a can-do attitude and a willingness to take ownership and jump in wherever needed.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Cisco certifications such as CCNP, CCNA, CCIE, etc.
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communications or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience.

When available, the salary range posted for this position reflects the projected hiring range for new hire, full-time salaries in U.S. and/or Canada locations, not including equity or benefits. For non-sales roles the hiring ranges reflect base salary only; employees are also eligible to receive annual bonuses. U.S. employees have access to quality medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance and numerous wellbeing offerings.
Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday (for non-exempt employees), plus a day off for their birthday. Non-Exempt new hires accrue up to 16 days of vacation time off each year, at a rate of 4.92 hours per pay period. Exempt new hires participate in Cisco’s flexible Vacation Time Off policy, which does not place a defined limit on how much vacation time eligible employees may use, but is subject to availability and some business limitations. All new hires are eligible for Sick Time Off subject to Cisco’s Sick Time Off Policy and will have eighty (80) hours of sick time off provided on their hire date and on January 1st of each year thereafter. Up to 80 hours of unused sick time will be carried forward from one calendar year to the next such that the maximum number of sick time hours an employee may have available is 160 hours. Employees in Illinois have a unique time off program designed specifically with local requirements in mind. All employees also have access to paid time away to deal with critical or emergency issues. We offer additional paid time to volunteer and give back to the community.
Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco typically pays as follows:
.75% of incentive target for each 1% of revenue attainment up to 50% of quota;
1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;
1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and once performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation.
For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
