The Opportunity:

8-month work term: September 2026 – April 2027
12-month work term: September 2026 – August 2027

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to validation of end-to-end optical networking solutions within Ciena’s Optical Platform Systems organization. The position supports system integration activities that ensure alignment between system behavior and design intent. Exposure to lab-based testing and collaboration with system architects enables development of practical engineering skills in optical networking environments.

How you will make an impact:

  • Conduct system-level testing using Python automation scripts and manual execution methods
  • Install and provision optical systems within a lab environment
  • Troubleshoot system-level issues identified during testing activities
  • Collaborate with System Architects to analyze and determine root causes of system behavior
  • Execute validation activities using optical and electrical test equipment

The must haves:

  • Education: Working towards completion of a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
  • Application of Linux in academic or project-based environments
  • Utilization of Python programming for automation or testing tasks

Nice to haves:

  • Experience: Application of lab-based testing environments
  • Exposure to fiber optics and optical networking concepts

Pay Range:

The hourly pay range for this position is $25 to $32.
