Junior Pluggable Optical Modem Test Engineer

This early‑career opportunity plays a meaningful role in ensuring the quality, performance, and reliability of next‑generation pluggable optical modem technologies, working alongside experienced engineers in a collaborative laboratory environment.

How you will make an impact:

• Support the execution of test plans for pluggable optical modems, including functional, performance, and stress testing
• Configure and maintain optical and electrical laboratory test environments and equipment
• Analyze, document, and communicate test results and defects to development teams
• Participate in root cause analysis and issue resolution in collaboration with senior engineers
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of automated test scripts and tools
• Provide input during design reviews to improve testability and product quality
• Collaborate with cross‑functional hardware, software, and firmware engineering teams

The must haves:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field
• Foundational knowledge of optical communication principles and components, such as lasers, photodetectors, and optical fiber
• Hands‑on experience with laboratory test equipment, including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and optical power meters
• Proficiency in at least one scripting language, such as Python or MATLAB, for test automation
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

Nice to haves:

• Experience with object‑oriented programming concepts
• Prior internship or co‑op experience in an engineering or test environment
• Exposure to automated test frameworks or continuous integration workflows
• Familiarity with optical networking standards and emerging industry technologies

Pay Range:

The annual pay range for this position is $62,600 – $100,000.

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
