How You Will Contribute:


The Senior Systems Sales Engineer will be a customer-facing sales team representative focused on specific accounts.


The Must Haves:

  • Perform technical tasks, including written proposals, network design and engineering and quotes.
  • Must be able to communicate solutions to customers and work with internal Ciena organization.
  • Perform network and applications engineering for multiple CIENA products
  • Complete complex network designs for customer application of CIENA networking products
  • Proficient in use of Ciena Network design and modeling tools
  • Prepare quotations and assist in proposal preparation for Ciena products & upgrading actual design.
  • Provide product and technical expertise to support Sales efforts of Ciena products
  • Prepare complex design and applications presentations
  • Gain understanding of Salesforce/Quoting Tools
  • 30-50% travel required
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Collaboration with stakeholders

  • Consult with potential and current customers on application of CIENA products for next generation architectures
  • Interface with sales group and product management/marketing to develop and/or propose product enhancements to meet customer requirements


Assets:

Technical expertise in data networking including understanding of IP, Ethernet and other data networking protocols

General technical knowledge of fiber optic transmission systems (especially OTN,SONET, WDM), Telecommunication networks, storage networks and network management. Excellent verbal and written communications skills Excellent presentation skills

Understanding of telecommunications, storage and data communications network architectures

Technical knowledge in some of the following areas:

  • Software applications (Automation, Orchestration, Inventory, Analytics)
  • Fibre optics, Packet Optical Networking, DWDM, SONET, Storage Area Networking
  • Packet, Carrier Ethernet, MPLS-TP, IP/MPLS
  • Open Architecture (Openstack, REST API, Netconf, YANG, TOSCA)
  • Programming Language (Python, JSON)

Multi-tasking: able to handle multiple tasks with minimal supervision

Motivated technical individual that desires to work on application of advanced optical, Ethernet and storage networking architectures as well as learn the best practices for network automation

The ability to demonstrate experience in technical sales activities

Ability to understand customer needs and use technical expertise to develop customer solution

Ability to develop customer relationships and work well with customers

Team player

Technical Degree; BSEE or relevant experience

5-12 years telecommunication industry experience

Prior experience as a contributor on a sales account team

The annual pay range for this position is $144,000 - $230,000 USD

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
