BACKGROUND
The CIBC Corporate Banking Europe team operates in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, supporting clients across the Infrastructure, Energy, Mining and broader Corporate sectors. The team is diverse and inclusive, reflecting CIBC’s global values. The Ratings Advisory function plays a strategic role in supporting capital markets activity, client decision-making, and risk management.
PURPOSE
As Executive Director, Ratings Advisory, you will lead the development and delivery of credit ratings advisory solutions for CIBC’s European corporate and infrastructure clients on behalf of Corporate & Investment Banking in Europe. You will provide expert guidance on credit ratings strategy, capital structure optimization, and rating agency engagement, supporting both origination and ongoing relationship management activities. This role is pivotal in helping clients achieve optimal credit outcomes, navigate ratings processes, and meet their financing objectives.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Lead Ratings Advisory Engagements: Act as the primary point of contact for ratings advisory mandates, advising clients on ratings strategy, anticipated rating outcomes, and rating agency methodologies
Client Relationship Management: Maintain and develop strong relationships with existing and prospective clients, understanding their strategic objectives and capital market’s needs.
Transaction Support: Support origination and execution of capital markets, debt advisory and lending transactions with ratings analysis, including the impact of proposed structures on credit ratings.
Credit Analysis & Market Insights: Provide in-depth analysis of credit profiles, sector trends, and market developments, advising both clients and internal teams on ratings implications.
Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with Capital Markets, Investment Banking, and Product Partners to deliver integrated advisory solutions.
Due Diligence & Compliance: Ensure all advisory recommendations meet CIBC’s professional standards, regulatory requirements, and internal risk guidelines.
Mentorship & Leadership: Provide thought leadership and mentorship to junior staff, sharing expertise in ratings, credit analysis, and market best practices.
Profile Building: Enhance CIBC’s reputation as a leading provider of ratings advisory services, representing the Bank at industry events and in client forums.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Extensive experience (10+ years) in credit ratings advisory, corporate banking, project finance, or related fields within the European market.
Deep understanding of rating agency methodologies, credit risk analysis, and capital structure advisory.
Proven ability to prepare, analyze, and present complex credit materials to clients and internal stakeholders.
Strong negotiation and structuring skills, with experience in legal documentation and transaction execution.
Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
High ethical standards and professionalism, with a client-centric and results-oriented approach.
Proficiency in financial modeling, credit analysis, and Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under tight deadlines.
