What You’ll Be Doing:

Our Investment Bank supports corporate and private capital clients with strategic advice and corporate finance advisory services (such as mergers and acquisitions) as well as debt and equity capital raising. Our vision is to be a key investment banking and capital markets banking partner to our clients, across multiple products and services.

The Financial Institutions Investment Banking (“FIG”) team has deep sector expertise and proven deal execution capabilities, combined with a full suite of investment banking capital markets solutions, as well as corporate banking, treasury services and risk management solutions from other groups within CIBC Capital Markets, which allow us to assist at every stage of our FIG clients' business lifecycle. As an experienced FIG team in this dynamic and rapidly changing industry, we have the capabilities to advise, structure and finance a broad array of noteworthy and complex transactions in the US.

Our group focuses on a broad set of financial institutions clients in a variety of subsectors, including specialty finance, financial technology, insurance, asset and wealth management, among others. Our ecosystem is fast-changing and the successful applicant will help assist our clients in many capacities including strategic mergers and acquisitions and financings across debt and equity markets.

With guidance from Managing Directors and/or Executive Directors, you will complete assignments that impact the firm's bottom line through deal execution, client relationship support, industry and company analysis, and overall communication and collaboration with banking partners across our global offices. The role will provide you with a wealth of learning and an ability to observe and influence the strategic direction of our clients’ businesses, with direct exposure to client executives and boards of directors as well as senior CIBC leadership.

How You’ll Succeed:

Directors (VPs) on the US FIG team will be expected to lead a broad range of analytical, research and presentation preparation support to senior bankers within the group. Typically, Directors (VPs) work on a variety of transactions and advisory mandates and must have strong prioritization and multi-tasking capabilities.

Applying your strengths in quantitative analysis to lead and direct complex financial analyses and models while distilling the “big picture” implications of such analyses will be critical to your success.

The role of a Director (VP) is challenging and fast-paced. It requires dedication, passion for the industry and a very solid work ethic. You must be able to accept flexibility in required personal time commitments to complete work assignments.

As part of the US FIG Investment Banking team, you will gain exposure to working with individuals from various other groups across the firm globally. A team approach to executing coverage, M&A advisory and financing assignments is designed to provide progressive on-the-job training.

  • Lead the execution of all facets of the group’s mandates and overall priorities
  • Act as the central point of contact between the deal team and client team members throughout transaction execution
  • Conduct deal related due diligence activities and present findings internally as well as directly to the client
  • Identify and anticipate our clients’ needs and provide excellent client service through coverage and transaction execution
  • Lead and oversee financial modeling and other financial analyses and provide corresponding recommendations to internal and client stakeholders
  • Research, develop and maintain a thorough understanding of our clients’ businesses, investments and industry to assist in the identification and analysis of investment banking business opportunities
  • Ensure the team is aware of material developments in the industry and the market in which our clients operate
  • Conduct client meetings alongside other CIBC team members
  • Assist senior investment banking colleagues to identify opportunities for fee-paying mandates with our clients
  • Ensure that recommendations and opinions offered to clients are in compliance with legislation and at all times and that they maintain the professional standards and policies of CIBC

  • Develop and maintain an internal network with product groups, other business groups, etc.
  • Develop and maintain an external network with the market (i.e. key stakeholders, prospects, etc.)
  • Support CIBC’s image through involvement in community activities, and
  • Actively manage and mentor Associates and Analysts, providing regular coaching, teaching, and feedback
