What You'll Be Doing

As an Analyst, you will be expected to provide a broad range of analytical and research support to all professionals within the Financial Institutions & Public Sector Lending group of CIBC Corporate Banking. The Analyst will be involved with a variety of client transactions that expose them to various aspects of loan origination, deal structuring and execution. You will work with a number of senior partners internally to support a wide range of large corporate client relationships.

Responsibilities include financial statement and credit analysis, financial modeling, due diligence, industry research and assisting in the preparation of credit narratives, presentation materials and client pitch books.

The role of an Analyst is challenging and fast-paced. It requires dedication, passion for the industry and a very solid work ethic.

Please note that we are open to hiring an Associate for this role based on the candidate's level of experience.

How You'll Succeed

  • Analysis - Responsible for conducting in-depth company, industry and portfolio analysis to support the credit relationships for a portfolio of clients including but not limited to pension funds, banks, insurers, asset managers, mortgage originators, auto finance companies, and public sector entities.

  • Lending Recommendations - Conduct sound, timely and well-communicated recommendations for credit facilities supported by thorough analysis and well-executed interpretation of relevant financial, industry, business and market information.

  • Evaluation - Run financial models and analysis, mainly focused on credit underwriting, lending returns, and risk rating evaluation.

  • Committee Presentations - Prepare presentation documents and participate in internal committee discussions.

  • Proposals - Play a key role in the preparation of business development proposals and participate on business development calls as required.

  • Portfolio Management – Assist in the management and maintenance of a portfolio of client relationships, alongside relationship managers.

Who You Are

  • You can demonstrate 1-4 years of related professional experience, with lending experience or experience with financial institutions viewed favorably.

  • You're a certified professional. MBA, CPA, CFA or other relevant professional designation viewed as an asset.

  • You have unquestioned professionalism, ethics and reputation as well as an approach to the workplace that is based on open communication and a team atmosphere.

  • You possess excellent communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complicated concepts and financial data.

  • You have exceptional understanding of financial statements and accounting principles and the ability to make decisions when faced with uncertainty

  • You can demonstrate experience in financial statement analysis and financial modeling as well as knowledge of business, economics and/or finance acquired through education or experience.

  • You can work well in a team environment and develop strong interpersonal relationships with team members. You possess advanced organizational and time management skills.

  • You demonstrate adaptability and flexibility to deal with a rapidly changing environment

  • You are technically savvy with strong technical/computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Bloomberg).
