What you’ll be doing

The Senior Audit Manager is responsible for delivering core audit services within the designated lines of business. They will act as a people leader for a team of auditors and be part of a multi-skilled audit team. This team has specific technical expertise to conduct risk-focused audits of various business processes and operations. The team also provides advice to senior and executive management on designing, implementing and maintaining internal controls. Through day to day activities, the Senior Audit Manager will also actively demonstrate support for CIBC’s purpose to help make client and employee ambitions a reality. This role includes Auditor-in-Charge opportunities and with the Portfolio Director, the individual will manage audit engagements through all phases of the audit including reporting to management. They will also promote compliance with CIBC policies and procedures, standards, guidelines and relevant legislation, identify internal control weaknesses and advise clients of efficiency or effectiveness opportunities.

How you’ll succeed

  • People Leadership - Develop and lead a team of auditors through the entire cycle including hiring, developing, and performance management.

  • Audit Project and Stakeholder Management - Plan and lead or conduct audits of medium and large complexity businesses reflecting the assessment of audit risk to support the IA Annual Plan through all phases including planning, fieldwork and reporting. Identify and fully understand the key business processes and their inherent risk, the control environment, both at the management or operational levels and the potential residual risks. Identify business control deficiencies and assess the materiality and potential impact on the business and CIBC. Discuss and obtain client agreement on the severity of the weaknesses identified and the materiality of the unmanaged risk(s). Prepare audit reports in accordance with IA Division standards for review and discussion with business management and obtain business management’s commitment to corrective actions that are realistic and mitigate the risk and exposure in the long term.

  • Teamwork facilitation – Work collaboratively with audit management and other audit team members to plan and execute risk-based audits, and perform continuous monitoring of management’s control environment. Participate in internal projects aimed at improving and simplifying audit processes.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate experience in planning and executing risk-based operational audits, including comprehensive knowledge of audit practices, risk assessment principles, control and deficiency methodologies. You possess a solid understanding of applicable laws and regulatory requirements related to Retail Banking within a large financial institution. You typically have 5-10 years of audit or related experience. A Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance, along with a professional designation (e.g., CPA, CIA, MBA) or equivalent business experience, is considered an asset.
