What you’ll be doing

Global Operational Risk Management (GORM) is responsible for providing oversight of CIBC's global operational risk exposures through the Operational Risk Management and Control Frameworks including people, technology, processes or external events. The Operational Risk Management and Control Programs team is part of GORM and is responsible for developing and managing frameworks, policies, systems, tools and processes to ensure CIBC has a sound internal control environment, meets regulatory requirements and is effective in managing operational risks.

As a Risk Manager, you will provide support to lead the Scenario Analysis Program, the External Events Review and conduct a monthly regulatory scan. Scenario Analysis is key tool used in managing and measuring operational risk by obtaining expert opinion of business line management and Control Groups to identify potential operational risk events and assess their outcome, and where appropriate, identify actions to mitigate the risk exposures. An External Event Review (EER) is the examination of significant external losses to determine if such losses could occur at CIBC. In addition, you will perform a monthly regulatory review and stay abreast of regulatory changes that impact CIBC’s Operational Risk Management Policy and Control Framework.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 2-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you’ll succeed

  • Ownership - Responsible for managing all scenario data and performing specific Scenario Analysis and External Event Review activities (e.g., monitor, report, maintain pipeline of events).

  • Gathering and validating scenario input data - Review internal loss data, external loss data, Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs), Incident Reports, Audit Reports, Change Initiative Risk Assessments (CIRAs), Controls and Deficiencies.

  • Analyzing scenario data - Sort through loss data from CIBC, ORX, and other external event sources and review all information gathered to support decision-making on scenario selection and inform the frequency and severity discussions.

  • Researching industry data - Discover new scenario topic themes (e.g., ORX News, ORX Scenario Library review), and ensure any coverage gaps are highlighted. Also, maintain the existing scenario library.

  • Preparing and support facilitating scenario workshops - Work with colleagues within GORM to identify relevant loss scenarios and workshop participants. Prepare and distribute materials for the scenario workshops. Schedule, facilitate and take notes on workshop discussions. Ensure decisions, rationale, challenges and responses are recorded. Document the output from the scenario workshops and facilitate post workshop follow up activities with participants.

  • Prepare regulatory updates on a monthly basis by researching websites of regulatory bodies and relevant publications, and communicate regulatory changes to GORM stakeholders.

  • Efficient and organized - You will be working in a multi-tasking environment with tight timelines, balancing a number of priorities to ensure timely completion of deliverables.
