What you’ll be doing
The Business Banking Credit Adjudication team of CIBC is accountable for reviewing, processing and approving both secured and unsecured applications.
As the Credit Risk Associate, Business Banking, you’ll work under the supervision of the Senior Business Banking Credit Risk Manager and provide credit assessments and approval services for Business Banking credit applications within delegated limits and credit structuring support and advice to frontline lenders. You will also assist with various administrative functions within the Business Banking Credit Adjudication team.

How you’ll succeed
- Analysis - Analyze and approve/decline/defer credit applications within the delegated authority, exercising sound judgment in the decision making process to ensure the quality of the Bank’s portfolio is maintained.
- Risk Assessment - Assess the risk of Business Banking credit applications through consideration of financial history, cash flow and other analyses within established policies and guidelines. Make credit approval/decline decisions within delegated limits; assess then refer recommendations to your leader for accounts above delegated limits.
- Make Recommendations – Recommend/negotiate alternative options on declined credit applications such as changes to the amount, structure and/or terms and conditions to arrive at an approval while maintaining a balance between customer relations and risk.
- Effectively Communicate With Business Partners - Effectively communicate both the decision and rationale to Relationship Managers on credit applications. Identify deteriorating accounts and take/recommend corrective action including recommending transitioning of accounts to Special Loans or Client Account Management to minimize losses where necessary.
- Be a Proactive Advocate for Change both within Risk and Business Banking – The Business Banking Credit Risk Associate will also partner closely with the Business Banking frontline. This will generally include regular and direct contact with both Business Banking frontline and Credit Execution, as well as clients as deemed necessary.
