What You’ll Be Doing
As a part of the Bank’s Second Line of Defense, the Senior Credit Risk Manager’s primary purpose is to:
Understand and manage the bank’s credit risk exposure based on its size, complexity, and risk profile
Serve as a trusted business partner
Ensure independent effective challenge over credit risk-taking activities
Provide appropriate recommendations to manage and limit exposure to credit risks
Remain informed of industry practices and regulatory expectations
Monitor credit risk-taking activities and results against risk appetite

How You’ll Succeed
The Senior Credit Risk Manager role is an individual contributor accountable for:
Engaging with Enterprise Risk Management and the Lines of Business on Foundational Risk Management topics, such as risk appetite, risk identification, known and emerging risks, and transverse risk stripe deliverables;
Overseeing Counterparty Credit Risk exposure for CIBC Bancorp USA, Inc. and coordinating counterparty risk activities with the SVP, Trading Credit and Corporate Credit Risk at CIBC Inc.
Liaising with various Lines of Business representatives to influence, direct, review and challenge credit risk-oriented change management activities;
Directing internal audit, external audit and regulatory oversight activities in conjunction with the Credit Risk Management Policy & Governance team and Regulatory Affairs;
Driving consistency in the Credit Risk Management control environment through control ownership and process documentation review, in coordination with the Credit Risk Management Policy & Governance team;
Completing ad-hoc reporting or project work at the request of the U.S. Head, Non-Transactional Credit Risk.
Responsibilities may expand to keep pace with the Bank’s growth trajectory and associated maturation of the Credit Risk Management function.
Who You Are
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Accounting, Finance or other business discipline
- Minimum of 10+ years’ experience in Wholesale (Commercial) Lending and Risk Management. Line of Business experience is an asset
- Working knowledge of counterparty credit risk management preferred
- Excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills that drive cross-functional execution
- Exceptional business writing skills with ability to synthesize large amounts of information
- Solid understanding of regulatory expectations and best practices of the financial industry
- Ability to self-start and work with minimal oversight
- Ability to manage multiple projects and/or initiatives simultaneously under tight deadlines
- Ability to demonstrate CIBC’s core values (e.g. trust, teamwork, and accountability)
- Team player with solid relationship-building skills
- Highly organized with keen attention to detail

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $120,000 - $150,000 for the market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which may also include a discretionary bonus component.
