What you’ll be doing

As an integral member of the Personal Banking and Imperial Service National Office at CIBC, reporting directly to the Vice-President, Distribution Strategy, the Senior Director, Distribution Strategy will play a key role in leading the development, implementation of business strategies and the execution of strategic initiatives to enable the Personal and Business Banking SBU to deliver on its overall strategic priorities and goals. The Senior Director integrates components from the distribution strategy, frontline operations, banking center network, technology, digital capabilities, and investment initiatives to ensure we are driving growth and productivity across our bank. This role will develop strategies aligned with overall strategic priorities of Personal and Business Banking (PBB), develop multi-year roadmaps, drive continuous improvement while staying abreast of industry trends to inform and shape our retail distribution strategy. This is a highly collaborative role with exposure across the bank, that requires strong thought leadership, strategic decision making, proactive stakeholder management, influencing and people management capabilities.

How you’ll succeed

  • Strategy development and execution – Lead and oversee the development, management, and organization of the retail distribution strategy. Support the creation of a long-term vision and strategy for retail banking, providing analysis, research, and interpretation to enable a multi-year roadmap. Shape and influence business leaders on defining, prioritizing, and executing initiatives to achieve strategic objectives, develop and execute strategic initiatives that leverage technology, digital, and AI to enhance retail distribution processes, workflows, and growth. Maintain a deep understanding of the business' strengths and opportunities, ensuring all initiatives remain aligned with enterprise goals and strategies. Act as the business lead for strategic initiative execution, collaborating with partners to define business requirements and ensuring successful implementation. Ensure projects are delivered on time while effectively managing risks and stakeholder expectations. This approach ensures alignment with strategic priorities, drives innovation, and positions the organization for sustainable growth.

  • Research and data analysis – Oversee internal and external research and data analysis to identify and evaluate potential opportunities while staying informed on key trends, industry developments, client needs, and regulatory changes. Provide leadership in conducting financial and data analysis, as well as quantitative assessments of opportunities, to support informed decision-making. Interpret research and data insights to shape and drive strategy development. Emphasize the evaluation of both quantitative and qualitative factors, including the costs and benefits of investments, and leverage these analyses to effectively prioritize initiatives.

  • Stakeholder management, cross-functional collaboration & relationship building – Actively collaborate with stakeholders across CIBC to identify opportunities and execute strategic initiatives. Lead stakeholder engagement by understanding their needs and priorities, gathering insights to inform the development of new opportunities. Act as the primary liaison across multiple stakeholder teams to ensure strategic alignment and the successful execution of initiatives. Partner with individuals at various levels of the organization to foster alignment and support the advancement of the digital servicing roadmap.

  • Leadership and people management – Lead, guide and motivate the team to achieve shared objectives with a clear sense of purpose and direction. Effectively execute priorities by setting the appropriate context when assigning tasks, ensuring that each individual’s role aligns with and supports the overarching goals of the National Office and CIBC. Inspire productivity and drive meaningful outcomes by fostering a positive and inclusive work environment where team members feel empowered, valued, and motivated to perform at their best. Enable growth by identifying and providing development opportunities that enhance both individual and team capabilities, while serving as a role model who consistently champions CIBC’s mission, vision, and values.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate 8 to 10 years proven work experience in developing innovative strategies that align with organizational goals and drive business growth within financial institutions, showcasing a strong track record of success in driving strategic initiatives and achieving business outcomes using in-depth research to identify opportunities, trends, and challenges within the financial services industry.

  • You have a degree in Business (MBA preferred).

  • You can demonstrate strong leadership experience with the ability to inspire and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization. A collaborative mindset to build relationships and drive consensus in a dynamic environment.

  • You can demonstrate strong experience to effectively navigate and collaborate within a complex matrix organization, fostering alignment and driving cross-functional initiatives to achieve strategic priorities.

  • You can demonstrate thorough understanding of the financial industry, including financial services practices, principles, and regulatory frameworks. Ability to analyze and interpret complex concepts and apply them in innovative and practical ways across all levels of the organization.
