The Deputy Chief Constable plays an integral role in supporting the Chief Constable in providing overall leadership and direction to the STPS. A highly credible leader, the Deputy Chief will maintain a visible and respected profile across the Service and within the community. In addition to overseeing key operational and administrative areas, they will work closely with the Chief Constable to provide clear vision and direction to staff in the delivery of essential policing services. The Deputy Chief will also build strong relationships with the Police Board and key partners to support effective coordination, alignment and shared priorities. In the Chief Constable’s absence, the Deputy Chief will serve as their designate.

The ideal candidate will bring significant senior police leadership experience, with a strong background in operations, human resources and administration. A proven ability to build trusted and effective relationships, both internally and across the community, will be a hallmark of the selected candidate’s success. Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with First Nations communities would be a significant asset. Additionally, the new Deputy Chief will bring integrity, personal resolve, strength of character and unsurpassed dedication to the people who serve as sworn police members and civilian staff.

The targeted salary range for this position is $200,000 – $225,000 annually, supplemented by a competitive total rewards package.

The Stl’atl’imx Tribal Police Service (STPS) evolved from a security program implemented by the Lillooet Band Council in 1986 to becoming the only self-administered First Nations Police Service in British Columbia today. The STPS provides full-service policing to ten participating St’at’imc communities, whose traditional territory covers over 20,000 square kilometres of BC’s Coast Mountain region. Communities in southern St’at’imc include; Lil’wat, N’Quatqua, Samahquam, Skatin and Xa’xtsa. Communities in northern St’at’imc include; Sekw’el’was, T’it’q’et, Tsal’alh, Ts’kw’aylaxw and Xaxli’p. The service functions under a Tripartite agreement signed by the Chiefs of the communities, the BC Ministry of Public Safety (PSSG) and Public Safety Canada. The STPS is one of over a dozen BC Municipal Police Services. Notably, it is the only First Nations policing organization in the province.
