Job Summary

Police officers act as official representatives of the LRPS who are required and trusted to work within the law. Powers and duties are conferred by statute. Serve the community, safeguard lives and property, protect the innocent, keep the peace, and ensure the rights of all to liberty, equality, and justice.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides primary response to emergency and non-emergency calls for service
  • Investigates and gathers evidence at crime scenes related to and including but not limited to:
    • motor vehicle collisions
    • property break and enter, theft, mischief, etc.
    • personal and institutional robberies
    • domestic (familial) conflict (e.g. domestic assault, child abuse, parental abduction)
    • non-familial sex crimes (e.g. sexual assault, indecent exposure, stalking)
    • forgery, fraud, etc.
    • assaults, assault causing bodily harm, aggravated assaults, etc.
    • young offenders
    • possession and trafficking of controlled drugs and substances and other intoxicating substances (e.g. alcohol, lacquer thinner)
  • Prevents and deters crime
  • Maintains peace and order in the community
  • Apprehends offenders
  • Utilizes investigative expertise and professional case management to maximize the successful prosecution of offenders
  • Engages in traffic safety enforcement, education, and engineering practices
  • Develops and maintains smooth, cooperative working relationships with peers, subordinates, and superiors
  • Solves problems through community consultation and partnerships
  • Conducts and participates in meetings
  • Other lawful duties, as requested
