As a valued member of our team and reporting directly to the Sergeant-at-Arms, you will collaborate closely with the dynamic Legislative Protective Services team. We are currently seeking a Director, Legislative Protective Services to lead with integrity, vision, and a commitment to excellence.
What You’ll Do
You’ll act with integrity to:
• Lead, plan, and oversee all operations of the Legislative Protective Service (LPS) to ensure the safety and security of the Legislative Precinct, its occupants, and the Legislative process.
• Provide strategic advice to senior management on security policies, risk management, and operational strategies.
• Develop and manage the LPS budget, oversee resource allocation, monitor expenditures, and recommend adjustments.
• Direct operational security activities, including threat assessments, emergency response, and compliance with legislation and internal policies.
• Supervise, coach, and support LPS staff, including recruitment, performance management, and employee relations.
• Liaise with internal stakeholders, law enforcement, and external partners to maintain a secure and effective operating environment.
• Ensure organizational readiness through ongoing training, modernization initiatives, and emergency preparedness planning.
You’ll support our collaboration as you:
• Monitor service delivery and staff performance, addressing issues and escalating when required.
• Provide guidance on security-related financial, legislative, and operational matters.
• Represent LPS in discussions with internal and external partners to address security and operational issues.
• Maintain awareness of emerging security threats, technologies, and best practices.
• Oversee complaint and disciplinary processes, ensuring professionalism and ethical conduct across the Service.

Qualifications / Required Skills

How You Qualify
You demonstrate excellence through your:
• University degree in Police Science, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or relevant field or equivalent experience, with 10+ years of leadership experience in policing/security operations.
• Eligibility as a Peace Officer and ability to maintain annual Use of Force and Firearms certification.
• Comprehensive knowledge of security and emergency operations, CPIC/ARIS systems, Fire Plans, CCTV, visitor management, duress systems, and emergency response procedures.
• Proven ability to lead officers and civilian staff, including recruitment, performance management, and employee relations.
• Strong judgment and strategic thinking, with the ability to apply policies to complex and high-pressure situations.
• Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with a commitment to confidentiality and professionalism.
• Demonstrated experience in managing matters related to human resources, financial systems, information technology, media, and community relations.
• Knowledge of law enforcement, public safety issues/trends, legislation, and public safety.
