Position Overview

Calian Advanced Technologies is seeking a reliable and motivated Custodian to join our Facilities Services team. The successful candidate will be responsible for general cleaning, floor maintenance, and supporting the overall cleanliness and safety of our facility. This role requires attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general cleaning duties, including floor care, dusting, and waste removal
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of custodial carts and supply closets
  • Use appropriate cleaning products and equipment safely, following MSDS and WHMIS guidelines
  • Wear and maintain proper PPE; follow ESD protocols in designated areas
  • Report maintenance issues such as faulty lights, leaky taps, or damaged equipment
  • Participate in safety training and follow fire, safety, and security procedures
  • Communicate any concerns or issues to the Head Custodian or designate
  • Support other facility service areas as required
  • Adhere to company policies related to hours of work, breaks, and time off
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous industrial or commercial cleaning experience
  • Familiarity with floor maintenance equipment and techniques
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., responding to emails, timesheet entry, training modules)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks (standing, walking, pushing, pulling)
  • Comfortable working in both office and manufacturing environments
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others

Additional Requirements

  • Commitment to following all health and safety regulations and company procedures
  • Ability to safely handle and dilute cleaning products
  • Awareness of fire safety, security protocols, and hazard reporting
  • Willingness to wear ESD smocks in electrostatic-sensitive areas
  • Demonstrated accountability for quality of work; potential to mentor junior custodial staff in future
  • Evening shift availability with flexibility for occasional changes or additional duties
