SAP Developer Analyst

Position Overview
The SAP Developer Analyst plays a critical role in supporting and enhancing Calian’s SAP environment. This position provides technical leadership to SAP Functional Analysts and Business Process Owners, translating business requirements into effective SAP solutions. The role requires strong expertise in ABAP programming, SAP architecture, and related technologies (HANA, Fiori), as well as a solid understanding of multiple SAP modules.
Responsibilities
- Analyze business and operational requirements from Functional Analysts and end users; recommend and design solutions using ABAP, configuration, and SAP tools (e.g., SAP Query, Report Painter, SAPScript, Standard User Exits).
- Assess and create data interfaces between SAP modules as needed.
- Lead system upgrade projects, troubleshoot issues, and provide end-user training.
- Perform detailed solution tasks, including:
- Study end users’ business requirements
- Conduct gap analysis between SAP functionality and business needs
- Design functional specifications, transactional workflows, and test plans
- Conduct feasibility walkthroughs with end users
- Develop/configure application enhancements
- Prepare technical documentation
- Perform technical testing and assist with end-user testing
- Implement solutions and provide post-implementation support
- Provide day-to-day production support of SAP systems, troubleshooting errors and developing innovative/customized solutions.
- Participate in planning, testing, and troubleshooting SAP support packs and updates.
- Perform backup duties for other business applications as needed.
- Maintain awareness of SAP and IT trends, applying continuous improvement practices.
- Ensure all activities adhere to Change Management policies (IS-0012).
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business, or related field
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Developer/Analyst or related consulting role
- Minimum 2 years ABAP programming experience (version 4.X or higher) – mandatory
- Additional experience in other programming languages is beneficial
- Knowledge of SAP modules highly desirable:
- Finance & Controlling (FI/CO)
- Materials Management (MM), especially purchase orders
- Sales & Distribution (SD)
- Project Systems (PS)
- HR ABAP programming, Payroll, or Time Management schemas
- Beneficial experience with GuiXT, WebDynpro, SAP workflow
- Knowledge of SAP Report Painter and integration points between FI/CO, SD, MM, PS, HR
- Strong analytical skills and ability to apply principles to diverse scenarios
- Understanding of business practices for back-office functions (Billing, HR, Finance)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and in a team environment
- Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize, plan, and coordinate work
Candidates located in Ottawa will work in a hybrid mode, coming to the office three times a week. We are also open to candidates who are based remotely anywhere in Ontario.
