This is a part-time position where we require someone who can work Mondays and Fridays for a total of 15 hours per week; work hours are 7:30am to 4pm.
As an Operating Room Technician (OR Tech), you’ll play a critical role in supporting life-changing procedures while ensuring the highest standards of care. This is your chance to bring your skills to a unique and meaningful setting where your expertise truly matters.
Operating Room Technicians (OR Tech) assist surgeons, internal medicine specialists, physicians with endoscopy, cystoscopy, and minor surgery procedures. Their work includes providing patient care during all aspects of procedure, preparing for procedures, assisting with procedures, cleaning procedure room, cleaning, disinfecting and sterilizing equipment. OR Tech works under the direction of surgeon internal medicine specialist, physicians during procedures and act as a part of the health care team.

Responsibilities
The required tasks for this occupational group include the following:
a. Assist surgeons, internal medicine specialists, physicians before, during and after endoscopy, cystoscopy, and minor surgery procedures.
b. Assist the patients before, during and after procedures according to best practices and clinic procedures.
c. Perform patient administration and charting according to clinic procedure.
d. Prepare for appropriate procedures in the endoscopy, cystoscopy, and minor procedure rooms.
e. Clean and disinfect procedure rooms in accordance with Canadian Safety Association (CSA) standards.
f. High level disinfect or sterilize endoscopes and cystoscope according to manufacture instructions and CSA standards.
g. Sterilize all equipment according to manufacture instructions and CSA standards.
h. Perform quality assurance test on equipment in medical device reprocessing department according to CSA standards.
i. Perform equipment maintenance in MDRD and procedure rooms according to manufacture instructions and CSA standards.
j. Maintain professional competence in practice by participating in workshops and conferences to learn current best practice in procedures and techniques.
k. Follow the continuing competency program according to the provincial or territorial regulatory authority for LPN/RPNs.
l. Follow CSA standards for the storage of medical supplies.
m. order medical equipment and supplies for medical device reprocessing department (MDRD) and procedure rooms.
n. Ensure proper storage, maintenance, and security of medical supplies within MDRD and procedure rooms according to CSA standards.
o. Maintain stock of medical supplies within MDRD and procedure rooms
p. Ensure that Work Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) standards are followed when working in MDRD and procedure rooms.
q. Maintain records required for quality control and workload statistics; and
r. Other associated tasks relevant to this occupational group.
Qualifications
All OR Techs must, as a minimum, have:
a. A Certificate of Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider or equivalent such as Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation/Automated External Defibrillator (CPR/AED) Level C. Annual recertification is required; and
c. A certificate from Medical Device Reprocessing Course with a minimum 3 years of experience within the last 5 years medical device reprocessing and endoscope reprocessing; and
d. Have a minimum 3 years of experience within the last 5 years working in a endoscopy, cystoscopy and minor procedure suites; and
e. Reached Operational Function Point as an OR Technician.
