Position Overview
Calian Health is seeking a RN with Conscious Sedation experience to work within the Canadian Forces Dental Unit Detachment located in Ottawa, ON. This is a part time, 3 day a week position. In this role you will you will actively administer intravenous anesthesia during procedural conscious sedation, as well as conduct peri and post-operative patient monitoring. You will be assessing and maintaining patient airways during sedation as you working alongside the Oral Surgeon and Periodonist monitoring the patient’s health and safety throughout medical procedures. Your excellent communication skills will be put to good use when explaining procedures to patients and ensuring their comfort before and after their procedure.
Responsibilities
- Conduct pre-operative assessment and patient teaching by completing preoperative medical questionnaire and pre-iv sedation patient instructions;
- Set up all medical equipment including all the emergency supplies and medications;
- Prepare and administer sedation as prescribed by a dental officer qualified in the level of sedation to be administered such as oral & maxillofacial surgeon;
- Provide continuous patient assessment and nursing interventions during parenteral and inhalation conscious or deep sedation
- Familiarize and assist in emergency procedures in accordance with ACLS protocols and the local dental policies.
- Provide continuous post-operative patient assessment and care
Qualifications
The Dental Sedation Nurse must, as a minimum, have 1 year full time equivalent experience in the following:
- Parenteral conscious sedation protocols and procedures in an emergency room, intensive care unit, or perioperative setting; and
- Assisting anaesthetists during the induction and emergence phases of anaesthesia.
Candidate must also:
- Hold a license and be in Good Standing with the provincial college
- Hold either a diploma or degree in Nursing
- Have a valid ACLS certification
- Have current N95 mask fit certificate
- Have current Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) Certification

- You will be able to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level
