Position Overview

The Senior Compensation Specialist partners with the Senior Manager, Compensation & Benefits to lead the research, design, implementation, and administration of all compensation programs, policies, and strategies at Calian. They ensure pay equity, integrate Calian’s core values, and provide professional guidance in support of Calian’s compensation philosophy.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in annual salary administration programs, job architecture, and salary increase budget recommendations
  • Review salary adjustments for alignment with compensation philosophy and market best practices
  • Interpret market compensation surveys and apply benchmark data for annual salary reviews
  • Define and assess jobs and job families within Calian’s Job Architecture and Job Evaluation framework
  • Provide data-driven compensation recommendations to business leaders
  • Support the development and roll-out of short-term and long-term incentive plans
  • Partner with Finance to manage incentive plans, including target setting, accruals, payouts, and communication
  • Maintain pay bands and ensure alignment with Calian’s core strategy and values
  • Level new and revised jobs based on internal job accountability framework
  • Integrate acquisitions into Calian’s compensation programs
  • Prepare training materials for managers on salary review discussions
  • Present compensation reviews to business leaders with relevant data and recommendations
  • Advise senior leadership on best practices and market trends to maintain a competitive compensation structure
  • Maintain accurate job descriptions
  • Participate in total rewards programs annual enrollment, data updates, validations, and reconciliations
  • Drive pay transparency and pay equity initiatives
  • Develop, write, edit, and modify policies, guidelines, and processes
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws

Qualifications

Education

  • Post-secondary degree in Human Resources or related field

Experience

  • 8+ years HR experience in compensation
  • Strong analytical skills for data evaluation and recommendations
  • Experience with salary surveys, job evaluation, and compensation data management tools
  • Familiarity with HR systems (SuccessFactors, PayFactors, Radford, etc.)
  • Experience with Executive and Sales Compensation is an asset
  • Advanced Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.)
  • Global compensation experience is an asset
  • Knowledge of the Pay Equity Act is an asset
  • Working toward Compensation, Benefits or HR certification (CCP/CHRP/CHRL) is an asset
