Canadian Compliance Tax Manager

About This Role
Reporting to the Canadian tax leader, act as a business partner in managing the compliance of Canadian companies
Results oriented and able to adapt and be flexible in all situations encountered, the candidate will supervise a team of 1-2 analysts, be responsible for the tax compliance of the entities under its responsibility and will be responsible for explaining the tax position (compliance) and providing visibility on tax accounts to the Canadian tax leader or directly to the Vice President of Tax. To do so, he/she will:
- Participate in the process of continuous improvement and review of existing procedures to improve the efficiency of the compliance process and reduce the company's exposure to various tax risks.
- Coordinate the timely filing of Canadian tax returns with the various stakeholders (controllers and tax team members)
- Participate in the preparation and review of tax returns for the company (including the underlying forms: T106, T1134, NR4)
- Participate in the preparation and review of the reconciliation of tax returns to tax provisions (True-up) for both corporate tax and tax incentives.
- Manage tax audits affecting the company (corporate tax and SR&ED) by coordinating them in an efficient and timely manner, directing them to the appropriate parties, preparing and reviewing the required analyses for government audits and preparing and reviewing audit summaries and their impact and communicating with tax authorities to reconcile discrepancies.
- Participe in the updating of various tax accounts (ACB, PUC, safe income)
- Participe in special projects
- Monitor tax legislative developments and assess impacts for the group.
- Coordinate various deadlines such as notices of assessment, notices of objection and statute barred periods for the company
- Provide coaching and training to the team's analysts
- Support the global tax compliance team at quarter and year end (Participate and oversee the quarterly tax provisions for the company (IAS34 and IAS12), reconcile the effective tax rate, review the continuity of current and future tax accounts)
- Maintain a strong and positive working relationship with other teams within the company to facilitate the application of Canadian tax rules to the various transactions that affect the company (analyze accounting information to identify the appropriate tax treatment)
- Supervise the analyst responsible for tax incentives (accounting and financial aspects of tax credits)
- Maintain a good relationship with the other teams of the tax team to manage all aspects of taxation affecting the company (e.g.: FAPI, transfer pricing, indirect tax etc)
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- University degree in accounting
- Tax training (In Depth or Master in Tax)
- Minimum of ten-fifteen years’ experience in Canadian corporate tax compliance, including two years in accounting.
- Accounting certification an asset.
- Experience with tax compliance in a public company an asset.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent knowledge of Taxprep.
- Knowledge of Oracle an asset.
- Knowledge of HFM an asset.
- Strong analytical skills
- Organized and motivated to grow the tax function
- Collaborative
- Leadership and ability to work under minimum supervision and to meet deadlines
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Bilingualism (French and English)
