About This Role
The Finance Business Partner, Technology will be the reference for the consolidated financial governance and reporting of the global CAE’s digital initiatives and will act as the financial lead on business cases for technology investments. The role focuses on financial risk management and business partnering, while responsibilities are a combination of investment assessments, improvement deliveries and some operational/reporting tasks.
The Finance Business Partner will be a key player in a transformative journey to consolidate and develop the governance and reporting of all digital initiatives; to improve and standardize policies, processes, and procedures; to enhance technology business cases methodology; to elevate reporting tools; as well as to strengthen data governance.
This role reports to the Finance Manager of Digital Initiatives, does not have direct reports, and is a part of a team currently composed of 2 analysts. The mission of the team is to ensure and continuously develop strong financial governance and reporting of CAE’s global technology investments.
Responsibilities & Activities
- Be the Finance lead for the technology investment business case preparation, oversight, and evolution. Improve the current approach and methodology to provide insightful financial information for decision making and to enhance financial performance throughout the life cycle of the project/product. Be the gatekeeper of the status of all technology business cases.
- Prepare the consolidated monthly forecast for the global Digital Initiatives (incl. both cost and amortization of intangibles), as well as various global financial analysis. Highlight and present key insights to internal clients and management.
- Prepare the consolidated risk overview for the global Digital Initiatives by performing various analysis, fostering strong business relationships and open communication with leaders of tech initiatives, and leveraging your knowledge of the technologies. Support your business partners in mitigating those risks and achieving financial targets.
- Prepare executive-ready deliverables (recurring and ad hoc) that provides financial visibility and useful insights on global Digital Initiatives.
- Lead selected improvement projects and participate in improvement projects alongside team members to execute on the transformative vision to develop the global Digital Initiatives financial governance:
- Types of improvements: data governance, reporting, end-to-end process improvement and standardization, roles and responsibilities formalization, internal controls, automation of operations, reorganization of work, etc.
- Contribution across the life cycle of improvement projects: current state analysis, future state design, gap analysis, testing, training, documentation, change management, post go-live monitoring, etc.
- Activities include data analysis, workshop facilitation, training delivery, interviews, documentation, etc.
- Design/Improve and perform operational tasks to continuously improve the accuracy and controls over the data governed and reported on internally.
- Participate in the budget activities for the global Digital Initiatives
- Support the Finance Manager, Digital Initiatives in the execution and continuous improvement of the Digital Planning agile process and governance.
- Gain deep understanding of the business, technologies, processes, stakeholders, end-to-end processes, financial structure, master data, etc. in order to leverage your knowledge as a SME (subject matter expert)
- Build and maintain strong business partnerships based a credibility and trust with the various leaders responsible for technology products / projects, Finance teams and other stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s in finance or accounting
- MBA or a professional Accounting Designation (CPA) – an asset
- 6+ years of experience, with strong experience in
- Financial governance as well as forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis
- Preparing business cases for technology investments
- Designing and implementing process improvements, preferably as part of a Finance department
- Experience in preparing executive-ready deliverables
- Bilingual (French and English), written and spoken, is a must
- Advanced skills in MS Excel and MS PowerPoint (skills in Visio is an asset)
