BWXT is seeking an Onsite IT Systems Administrator for its Lynchburg, VA location!

The Systems Administrator will design, implement, and troubleshoot information systems and technology solutions in support of various BWXT business units. Specific tasks include supporting datacenter operations such as server, network, and storage hardware along with the associated management platforms.

A successful candidate will have the ability to troubleshoot complex problems, complete complex projects, and work collaboratively with customers and business users, sometimes under stressful conditions. The person in this position will also be required to remain current with new technology developments and trends and continue to grow their skills to leverage these new advances. This position requires availability to handle critical issues after working hours whenever necessary.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the technical expert for IT Operations including virtualization, storage, Windows operating systems, Active Directory, Group Policy and other IT Operations application administration.
  • Implements new technology to support IT and business improvements.
  • Supports Airgapped network with increased security requirements such as DISA STIGs.
  • Implements, documents, & supports the Data Center operations on a daily basis.
  • Designs, maintains, and monitors datacenter backups for servers and vSAN.
  • Implements and manages vSAN.
  • Administers and supports all critical production applications.
  • Supports Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy, Exchange, IP Monitoring, and terminal server system/Windows Firewall.
  • Setups, administers, and supports various virtualization platforms, such as vmWare, Microsoft, and Linux.
  • Maintains security compliance by participating in implementing system security patches and software, firmware, and system upgrades.
  • Occasionally assists desktop engineers with advanced troubleshooting.
  • Reviews, updates, implements and tests Disaster Recovery plan.
  • Performs security audits.
  • Participates in continuous process improvement activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of relevant work experience OR
    • a high school diploma/equivalent plus 9 years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, vmWare vSphere, vSAN, SRM (Site Recovery Manager), Group Policy, DISA STIG controls (Defense Information Systems Agency Security Technical Implementation Guides), Windows Server Operating Systems, Exchange, Skype for Business/Teams, Networking, DFS (Distributed File System), Clustering.
  • Prior experience with Ivanti/LANDesk, Splunk, Netwrix, What’s Up Gold, Kemp, Cohesity, LANSweeper, Open Manage.
  • Ability to install and troubleshoot physical hardware.
  • Experience working with various physical servers, and virtual backup and recovery solutions.
  • Experience with storage area networks, vSAN (Virtual Storage Area Network) and administration and support of Data Center Infrastructure Operations.
  • Ability to cross train team members.
  • Demonstrable experience solving practical problems and carrying out responsibilities under general supervision.
  • Ability to organize workload for effective implementation.
  • Results oriented with a strong customer satisfaction focus.
  • Ability to work as an effective and adaptive team member, as the external environment and organization evolves.
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

Preferred Additional Qualifications:

  • Active security clearance.

Pay: $64,000 - $101,000

The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $64,000 and $101,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
