We are seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist to join our growing team in Mt. Vernon, IN!

The EHS Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and administering safety, health, and environmental protections impacting both employees and public safety. This includes occupational health, fire protection and prevention and equipment/property protection. The Specialist also provides technical assistance to ensure the facility is in compliance with all federal, state and /or Company policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Defines and administers safety and environmental programs in an effort to meet division and corporate safety and environmental goals.
  • Keeps abreast of trends in the industry and at other Company locations and integrates new techniques to improve the safety and environmental programs where applicable.
  • Works with management and supervision to improve the facility’s safety and environmental performance through monitoring and modifying programs to respond to all concerns.
  • Provides guidance and support for safety and environmental concerns raised by the employees.
  • Directs and performs safety audits in an attempt to maintain compliance with the division’s safety program.
  • Reviews OSHA requirements and makes recommendations as changes occur in the regulations.
  • Assists with accident investigations and prepares accident statistical reports and safety alerts.
  • Completes and distributes the workers' compensation forms and reports as required.
  • Provides training programs for all personnel to enhance the employee’s ability to work safely.
  • Monitors outside vendor safety and environmental performance and assures adherence to the Company’s safety and environmental rules.
  • Performs recordkeeping and reporting responsibilities for various environmental and safety programs such as air emissions, wastewater discharge, hazardous waste control, toxic substance control, safety inspection, safety meeting and accident statistical data.
  • Assists in developing and implementing elements of the Company’s environmental action plan including preparation and management of storm water pollution prevention plan, hazardous waste contingency plan and spill control plan.

Job Qualifications / Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health and Safety or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively is required.
  • U.S. Citizenship with no dual citizenship is required.

Pay: $63,000.00 - $99,000.00

The base salary range for this position in Indiana (US-IN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $63,000.00 and $99,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
