Business Controls - Principal - Finance & Inbound

Purpose Statement



The Business Controls Principal is responsible for the controls in his/her area of expertise including understanding current requirements, work on improvements in partnership with the business stakeholders and consultants, ensure alignment with key controls departments and formalize change in order to ensure a strong new control environment.

Key Responsibilities

It is expected that the controls resource will be integrated in all aspects of the Magellan program lifecycle and have an active participation role (implementation and support) within the product workstreams and interactions with non-Magellan stakeholders.

The controls team member is responsible for the delivery of business process controls for the Magellan program. Business process controls encompass automated, manual, and security controls around the core SAP applications within the Magellan scope.


Below are typical activities that a controls team member may be responsible for during the lifecycle of the Magellan program:


• Provide the input required for key decisions prior to the design and the implementation of GRC (Governance Risk & Compliance) as well as prior to the implementation of the other workstreams’ decisions.


• Collaborate with Magellan controls teams (AC & PC), Magellan workstreams, audit teams (SOX 404, SOX 302, Global Compliance, SOX IT, etc.) and business stakeholders to ensure proper controls are in place and that ongoing governance is in place and occurring.


• Attend the key meetings of your area of responsibility (Inbound, Finance) and ensure discussions and decisions are controls compliant (preventive vs. detective and automated as much as possible).


• Reinforce controls mindset at every opportunity.


• Review and provide inputs to the risk assessment and leverage it to ensure that no topic is forgotten in the discussions and throughout the Magellan project.


• Facilitate risk and controls sign-off discussions with product workstream stakeholders.


• Build of controls deliverables including control and related control procedures (automated – semi automated and manual)


• Formalize and audit-proof document all key decisions and controls documentation.


• Co-design and execute appropriate trainings before the roll out of GRC-PC.


• Ensure appropriate project communication on your areas of responsibility.


• Ensure compliance of new controls environment to current (or to be updated) BSC policies.

Cross-responsibilities:


• Work with IT team and consultants to set up new controls’ environment in new tool (GRC AC-access controls & GRC PC- process controls)


• Assist with initial configuration of GRC Access Control (AC) and GRC Process Control (PC). Assist in testing and resolution of issues relative to the controls under your scope.


• Assist other Magellan workstream as needed on controls topics (Master Data, SOD, Privacy/GDPR, regional questions on Magellan, etc.)


Management Requirements


Core skills that are required to meet the needs of this role include business process, risk, audit, (functional and technical SAP understanding), SAP security understanding, (and minimal GRC experience).


• Bachelor’s Degree; Audit, Controls or Accounting field required


• Minimum of 5-7 years hands-on experience working in internal audit – external audit/controls/risks or related responsibilities (SOX, process improvement, process mapping etc.)


• Experience with Segregation of duties, conflicts and mitigation controls is a plus


• Experience with SAP ECC, S/4 HANA suite of applications, GRC Access Control and GRC Process Controls preferred but not required


• Excellent organizational, analytical, written/verbal communication and presentation skills required


• Strong interpersonal skills which provide the ability to establish and build working relationships with individuals throughout the organization required

The anticipated compensation listed above and the value of core and optional employee benefits offered by Boston Scientific (BSC) – see www.bscbenefitsconnect.com--will vary based on actual location of the position and other pertinent factors considered in determining actual compensation for the role. Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

Compensation for hourly, non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).

Compensation for salaried, non-sales roles may also include variable compensation, i.e., annual bonus target and long-term incentives (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).

Compensation for sales roles is governed by Sales Incentive Compensation Plan (which includes certain annual non-discretionary incentives based on predetermined objectives).

This job involves regular collaboration with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders across Canada, the U.S., and/or internationally, making proficiency in English essential for effective communication and alignment. As detailed in the job description, this job involves communicating, both verbally and in writing, with other Boston Scientific teams located across Canada, the United States and/or with our international clients and partners. International customers and partners represent an important part of our activities. Based on an evaluation, we have determined that the duties of Business Controls - Principal - Finance & Inboundposition require knowledge of English in addition to French (oral and written). We also determined that the English language skills already required of other employees do not permit the performance of English language skills tasks related to Business Controls - Principal - Finance & Inbound position.
