We are seeking a R&D Engineer II on a permanent basis to join our team.
Job Purpose:
At Boston Scientific, our products and technologies are used to diagnose or treat a wide range of medical conditions. We continue to innovate in key areas and are extending our innovations into new geographies and high-growth adjacency markets. Within Peripheral Interventions (PI) we design, develop, and produce technologies for treating peripheral venous and arterial disorders in addition to supporting evolving regulatory and standard requirements around product design.
This person will be part of the Galway Peripheral Interventions Coating Team and will provide sustaining engineering support for current drug eluting projects and product lines. This role is responsible for providing design solution and technical support to ensure safety, compliance and manufacturing continuity of our product portfolio. A key team member that, under limited supervision/guidance, compiles, analyzes, and reports operational, test, and research data. This person will establish/verify performance standards for products, processes, materials and will create/maintain design-related technical documentation and design history.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate and contribute to project teams, which typically includes the following activities: product design changes, product design troubleshooting and investigation support, report preparation.
- Responsible for design related documentation including prints and specifications.
- Demonstrates design control knowledge through generation of high-quality deliverables.
- Use of design change process to ensure proposed changes are systematically and thoroughly analyzed before beginning the change process.
- Maintain product performance through Quality Investigations and ensuring rigorous support for design changes.
- Designs and coordinates product testing and experiments. Summarizes, analyzes and draws conclusions from test results.
- Performs troubleshooting on products/process problems as related to design, material or process.
- Prepares standard reports/documentation to communicate results to technical community.
- Works cross-functionally with project management, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical and marketing to ensure project success.
- Work collaboratively with manufacturing to reduce product costs through design improvements.
- Interfaces with vendors and physicians where projects require.
- Works independently to plan and schedule own activities necessary to meet timelines.
- May train and/or provide work direction to technicians and interns.
- Must be able to provide technical guidance within a team and be an effective communicator within a multidisciplinary and international organisation.
- Demonstrates a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality.
Education & Experience:
- Qualifications in either Chemistry, Polymers, Materials, Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering. Min. FETAC level 8.
- 4+ years experience within a regulated industry environment and with a track record of accomplishments. Experience and knowledge of Drug Eluting Coating products and processes in medical device industry an advantage.
- Self-Starter with the ability to work independently to plan, schedule and execute activities necessary to meet project timelines to schedule.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with good leadership abilities.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
