Senior R&D Manager Interventional Cardiology Therapies, Calcium and Plaque Modification (ICTx)
Maple Grove, MN
As Senior R&D Manager you will be responsible for leading a team of mechanical & biomedical engineers in the design, development, and commercialization of innovative catheter-based medical devices within the Interventional Cardiology (ICTx) division of Boston Scientific. Your primary responsibility will be leading a team of R&D engineers in driving the development of new products within the lesion modification and calcium R&D team. This position is for a hands-on technical leader in a fast-growing area with significant investment from the franchise. The ideal candidate will exhibit a blend of technical knowledge, business acumen, coaching ability, fact-based decision making, project management expertise, and collaborative stakeholder management. You will foster an environment that encourages people to take measured risks, learn from mistakes, and push the boundaries of engineering.
Key Responsibilities:

Recruiting, coaching, and developing engineering talent.

Assessing catheter-based project team needs across Interventional Cardiology and working with technical leads and program managers to ensure they are set up for technology and product development success.

Providing direction and/or guidance to engineers who exercise significant latitude and independence in their assignments. Will also supervise non-exempt employees and external contract design firm employees.

Monitoring compliance with company policies and procedures (e.g. compliance with FDA, BSI, EEO regulations, etc.).

Making decisions regarding work processes or operational plans and schedules in order to achieve department objectives.

Developing, monitoring and appropriately adjusting the annual budget for department.
Required minimum qualifications:
-
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent.

10+ years of engineering work experience (preferably in medical device or related field) with Bachelor’s degree, 8+ years of engineering experience with a Master’s degree, or 6+ yrs experience with a PhD degree.

3+ years’ experience in leading and developing a technical engineering group.

Proficient in design controls and risk management practices with fluency in what external regulations require for various product approvals.

Highly creative problem solver who leads with a sense of urgency.

Demonstrated strong cross-functional collaboration, influence without authority, and project/task management enabling highly effective teams.

A proven track record developing medical devices from early stage through full product launch and sustaining.

Personal drive, individual accountability and a strong bias for action.

Strong personal credibility and excellent communication skills.

Ability to work onsite at our Maple Grove site 4+ days per week.
Preferred qualifications:
-
M.S. or PhD in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering or equivalent.

Engineering experience in interventional cardiology and catheter-based medical devices, especially Class II or Class III medical device development.

Cross functional experience in working with external manufacturing partners, operations, test engineering and process development.

Passion for understanding and solving complex problems from our physician customers, including ability to learn the clinical disease state and identifying unmet needs.

Previous experience in engaging with physician customers including giving technical presentations and managing product complaints.
