About the role

We are looking for an experienced Project Specialist to join our PMO team. This role will involve providing expert advice and coaching to Bid Managers and Project Managers, while occasionally stepping into these roles when required. You will work closely with teams across regions, ensuring the successful delivery of projects and playing a key role in the continuous development of our project management knowledge base.

As a Project Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting and improving project performance. Key duties include:

  • Assisting bid and project teams with complex schedule and budget development.
  • Conducting simulations and scenario analyses to test plans and develop contingency measures.
  • Supporting customer contract negotiations and managing contract variations and disputes.
  • Compiling watch lists of high-risk projects and convening Project Review Boards.
  • Acting as a mentor and coach for Bid and Project Managers, providing training as needed.
  • Supporting knowledge management by gathering and sharing lessons learned from completed projects.

You will also work with the Head of Project Standards to maintain and update our Project Management Body of Knowledge and contribute to training and career development within the organisation. Depending on the team structure in your region, you may also take on line management responsibilities for other Project Specialists

In terms of location, we have offices in Bath, Bristol, London, Southampton, Plymouth and Fareham. and we are happy to explore flexible and hybrid working arrangements. Please note that travel to customer sites or to attend meetings will be required. This role is available part-time, job-share or full time. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full-time.

About you

We are looking for someone with:

  • More than five years of experience in Project Manager or Programme Manager roles.
  • A strong track record in delivering complex projects and managing resources effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage at all levels and provide clear, tactful guidance.
  • A commercially astute mindset with a broad understanding of business operations.
  • Strong decision-making skills, balancing data-driven insights with people management.
  • Flexibility and resilience, able to adapt quickly to new challenges and changing circumstances.

Your role will be essential in ensuring that projects are delivered on time and to the highest standards, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement
